How to make steam run KSP in 64 bit (it doesn't automatically)
I noticed today Steam doesn't run KSP in the 64 bit. Running it through the folders, also doesn't make steam recognize it.

How to make Steam run 64 bit Windows version of KSP.

If you're running steam,
1) right click KSP go to properties, and on the local files tab click Browse Local Files

Here you'll notice 2 new things. a KSP_x64_.exe and a KSP_Data_x64 folder.

2) Delete KSP.EXE and KSP_Data folder

3) Rename KSP_x64_.exe to KSP.exe

4) Rename the KSP_Data_x64 folder to KSP_Data

Wala... Steam will now recognize, and start the 64 bit version of KSP automatically.

Edit: Alot of people on here and KSP keep complaining it deletes the 32 bit, no big deal. Just run "Check Integrity of Game cache" and it'll put it back.

Or Thanks to noname down below

There is actually an easier way by editing launch parameters. Simply type the path to your 64bit exe with quote marks followed by %command%, for example:

"D:\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Kerbal Space Program\KSP_x64.exe" %command%

Or you can just run the 64 bit version straight from the folder and not delete the 32 bit version. :D

Its to bad it doesn't do it automatically.
This will delete your 32 bit version though. I highly suggest just making a shortcut for your desktop, but if you want to run it from the steam client make sure to backup the 32 bit version instead of deleting it.
Don't have to delete them, just rename them. Then you can still play 32bit if you want.

This works, by the way.
It's Viola not Walla. :| Also, I just made non-steam game shortcut and it works fine.

Exactly!
This sounds like a minor pain in the rear just to run it in 64-bit. What is the advantage to 64-bit in this game right now? Are there major performance improvements?

There is actually an easier way by editing launch parameters. Simply type the path to your 64bit exe with quote marks followed by %command%, for example:

"D:\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Kerbal Space Program\KSP_x64.exe" %command%

The benefits of 64bit come if you wish to use a lot of the large mod packs.
Thank you, Noname!

32bit games can only use upto 3.2GB of RAM if they go over this the game crashes.

The only way for KSP to work as it does is to load all content and mods all in one go which means long load times and filling up alot of RAM.

Some of us have to choose to use our best mods and not use ones that are not as important because there's not enough RAM running in 32bit.

Now with 64bit KSP we can keep adding mods and not worry about our of RAM limits or crashes. My CPU a first gen i7 allows me to install 16GB of RAM so I can go mad with Mods.

64bit version is very unstable right now and many mods are not 0.24 compatible yet.
