Just booted up Generations to make sure I wasnt going crazy and it is fullscreen 16:10.
This game isnt. T_T
Start it.
Set the game to Windowed Mode + your preferable resolution in 16:9 mode (1920x1200 [16:10] -> 1920x1080 [16:9])
Start the game, press CTRL+ENTER and voilá, no black bars anymore.
Does this just streach the image or force the game to render at the desired resolution?
I also tested 2880x900 (two 1440x900 screens) resolution with this way, and it works, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥:

When you've got a solution that can dynamically rescale an entire UI and HUD without stretching it out of a given aspect ratio, please do give us a call :)
I know it's easy to go 'Console Port' (which indeed we are!) whilst also overlooking...
Reworking the online play with a completely different API (Steamworks).
Full Steam 'Big Picture' support.
3 additional playable racers (some with multiple character models).
Controller support for both Xinput and Dinput devices.
Full Windows 7 and above Touch UI and In-game touch controls.
Full Windows 8 and above Tilt controls.
PC specific additional graphics, effects and set pieces.
Higher resolution textures.
...and that's before we look at the additional features we've added in (better voice chat options for one, VAC support too) as a result of forum feedback, or the three weeks we've spent putting in support for many older GPU's that don't support INTZ.
So I don't really feel we've been slacking off too much :P
