The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Witcher Crash on Mac
Greetings from New Zealand

Have looked through the discussions, tried the various fixes l've come across (thank you all) but no success yet. I wondered if my Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) not Lion is an issue?
Launches fine, goes right through till l start a new game, plays a small part of cutscene then crashes.

Nice to see more titles appearing in Steam-play.

Any thoughts appreciated,

Cheers,

DJO

S/L may be a separate issue, but most having this issue, as near as I can tell, ran into it as the result of the latest OSX update. On the bright side, this definitively puts me into the PC camp. Apple is over priced and over blown trash. Second biggest waste of time and money in my life. Lesson payed for and learned. Save yourself.

Indeed, it seems to be most problematic for Lion users (the main reason for my more specific post) The platform vs platform debate is not something l worry about, l run both Windows & Mac on my machine with no problems, They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

So yes, l can happily play Witcher in Boot Camp (Parallels is very respectable also). Just interested in knowing if there is a working solution on the Mac side.

Thank you for your thoughts :-)

ps: Im intrigued; What was the First biggest waste of time and money in your life?

Have a similar issue. Worked fine on Lion. Upgraded to latest version and now my mac locks out as soon as I launch witcher. Anyone have any ideas to solve?

hope that helps.

Thanks DJO
Seems like a common issue.
Hope you
get sorted soon
#1 waste = Divorce. I hear you on the debate bit. The reason that I bring it up, being a long term user of both, is that prevention is better than cure so, in the long term the fix is to avoid the cause of the most problems. PC = poo, OSuX = peanutty poo.

Ah yes... almost certain it was going to be something female. Sigh... PC, OSuX, Women - *hit happens it would seem!

Cheers

Have the exact same problem, also on a Mac Pro running 10.6.8. Wine crashes after "... desperate fight" in the cutscene every time.
Prepared to write off this game, and this game developer, as a loss. Should have checked better before buying, but didn't think Steam would sell a game that was 'ported' to mac by including a flimsy emulator.
As it's not a true port probably something to do with the wine wrapper needing to be updated to work with Lion.

I'm running 10.6 and the Witcher initially crashed on launch because wine was asking for firewall access in finder then getting obscured by the app taking over the window. Given that the app cannot perform app switching I wasn't able to do anything the first 10- 20 times until I finally was quicker at clicking than the app was at grabbing the screen.

Love the game but in a world of ports that barely conform to the platform they're on it's a particularly rough example, this from someone who got Skyrim to run on OSX.

To the dude ranting about the platform - the mac gets treated the way the PC does when console games are ported - no optimiation for the graphics or performance beyond the bare minimum to get the software rolling out the door.

Same. 10.6.8 + OSX + top end Macbook Pro (~1.5 years old) + nothing else running. Waste of $10. Steam has to pick up its act here with some QA input to support developers... this is the second game I've had major issues with IN A ROW (other was "Dwarfs!?"). I am boycotting any further Steam games even though I support their Linux moves .. I get better results pirating games from torrents.
