The story is amazing to me, however, and I'd suggest trying to stick with it long enough to see if you'll end up enjoying it more than you dislike the combat.
As for the OP, the combat is not that great when you start out. As you get further in, it gets better. Mind you, I installed the Better Combat mod. I dunno if that changes actual combat or not. I know it does alot of things. Check out all of the witcher mods on Nexus. There's alot of really good ones, might increase your enjoyment.
The Witcher 2 is the better game by far.
TW1 does become better later on though, both in terms of combat and story imo. Although, I enjoyed the village storyline in the beginning, nice ambiance. To each their own, though
...This combat is attrocious.
Sure, it may get better; I'm hoping it will.
Never seen anything like it, though.. in that it is unparralled levels of awful.
Not a difficulty issue, but a control and feel issue.
SO GLAD this game was on discount.
When momentum is built up it's.. ok?
So, you figure you may hit a button or click to attack..
But Nope, click and hold.. Let go and do nothing instead.
I like the ability to move Cancel.. but not Cancel unless Ideal Conditions.
Who the hell programmed this? Who specifically by name? I want to avoid thier future work.
I get that a character's start in a story is designed to feel inadequate at first, to allow for a feeling of growth throughout the adventure.
....but I just watched this guy parkour whoop the buns off of a giant beast in the opening scene.. so what the hell gives?! ...From a smooth combat master badass intro, instantly to a bumbling idiot who's controls second guess whether or not to attack the baddies.
(Uh oh, I wished to swing again, and so I stopped swinging altogether. After all I WAS chewing gum and walking already. -Geralt)
Going to play through as best I can, and I'll write back if my opinion changes.
Not off to a good start though.
