The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Combat
To start this...I am not slagging this game. I just simply do not enjoy the combat. What I would like to know is, is it worth sticking around for the story? Will I want to find out whats going to happen next? If not should I skip it and play TW2, is the combat different in that one?

I didn't enjoy the combat at first either. It does get better [to me, at least] once you are able to put some points into combat talents. I personally think the story so far is definitely worth the pain you'd experience if you never got to the point of slightly liking the combat. Then again, it's all perspective and you may or may not enjoy the story as much as I do. I haven't played anything beyond the tutorial of TW2, and that was a while ago, but I do recall it being different [better].

The story is amazing to me, however, and I'd suggest trying to stick with it long enough to see if you'll end up enjoying it more than you dislike the combat.

One question: How can i parry? I'm in a quest qhere i need to take Gramps trough the swamp, but those pruple plants are too powerful... How can i defeat them?

You can dodge attack by double tapping direction keys. Otherwise, i think defense is handled automatically (invisible dice rolling).
As for the OP, the combat is not that great when you start out. As you get further in, it gets better. Mind you, I installed the Better Combat mod. I dunno if that changes actual combat or not. I know it does alot of things. Check out all of the witcher mods on Nexus. There's alot of really good ones, might increase your enjoyment.

Combat is considered to be one of two points that most people critique the game for.

The Witcher 2 is the better game by far.

The better game by far is The Witcher 2.

TW1 does become better later on though, both in terms of combat and story imo. Although, I enjoyed the village storyline in the beginning, nice ambiance. To each their own, though

Well I have been convinced to stick with it a little bit longer.

I didn't like the combat either, I completed the game just for the story and it was worth it.

By the time I got to the end of the game, I was literally running past things if I could specifically so I didn't have to endure the tedious combat involved in killing them. Especially in the swamps. Any time a quest involved me going back to the swamps, I just cringed. The combat wasn't even difficult, it was just mind-numbing at times.

Stick it out for the story it truely is great. The combat gets a bit more flashy as you progress and are able to tie up combo hits, saying that tho the combat in TW2 is better

Current impression in the first missions...
...This combat is attrocious.

Sure, it may get better; I'm hoping it will.
Never seen anything like it, though.. in that it is unparralled levels of awful.

Not a difficulty issue, but a control and feel issue.
SO GLAD this game was on discount.

When momentum is built up it's.. ok?

So, you figure you may hit a button or click to attack..
But Nope, click and hold.. Let go and do nothing instead.
I like the ability to move Cancel.. but not Cancel unless Ideal Conditions.

Who the hell programmed this? Who specifically by name? I want to avoid thier future work.

I get that a character's start in a story is designed to feel inadequate at first, to allow for a feeling of growth throughout the adventure.
....but I just watched this guy parkour whoop the buns off of a giant beast in the opening scene.. so what the hell gives?! ...From a smooth combat master badass intro, instantly to a bumbling idiot who's controls second guess whether or not to attack the baddies.

(Uh oh, I wished to swing again, and so I stopped swinging altogether. After all I WAS chewing gum and walking already. -Geralt)

Going to play through as best I can, and I'll write back if my opinion changes.
Not off to a good start though.
