I'll just say this up front: this game is not as good at Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat. Not by a long shot: bullet sponge stalkers, buggy AI, generally linear storyline and map progression, lack of decent side quests, and wasted potential of the "Faction War" that is more of an exercise in patience than anything else.
That said, Clear Sky is still a pretty good game, and for all its faults has a special place in my heart - even if I'm not entirely sure why. While the early patches "had more bugs than a crack ♥♥♥♥♥ with the sniffles" I've yet to crash with the steam version. Storyline could be better but is a good enough addition/prequel to the STALKER lore, and for all the frustration and unsatisfaction that will come the overall gameplay is still enjoyable. Plus GSC introduced or overhauled several things in this game that they went on to refine in CoP - weapon modifying, teams of stalkers, fast travel, anomaly fields, artifacts, faction relations, etc - so some stuff being rough around the edges is excusable. And who could forget the bandit polka!
If you're a fan of the series, bought the SHoC/CoP bundle but still want more, or just are the style to play through games in order, it's worth the $10 to pick up, especially since the modding scene for it seems to be picking up these days. Give it a try, you won't regret it! Or at least, not till you try to make it past the army MG emplacement...
