XCOM: Enemy Within - ridiculously slow framerate (even on low settings!)
For those of you experiencing this (initially rather annoying) problem, have a look at your 'GPU activity'. It's possible (as in my case) that the DLC is preset to run using integrated graphics, by default. Access your GPU setting and manually force 'enemy within EXE' to run using your GPU, as opposed to integrated graphics. Not sure if this is affecting anyone else, but I think it's probably a problem with the game itself, which will need patching. Hope this helps, as it wasn't obvious to me at first!

THis is only relevant to you if you have a if you have a dedicated graphics card, as well as your integrated processor - usually Intel. Access the settings (e.g. Nvidia Control Panel or equivalent) and go into the 'manage 3d settings'. Here (or your graphics card settings equivalent) chose go into your applications and manually set Enemy Within to run using your graphics card, rather than the 'integrated graphics' setting. I've only ever used Nvidia, so I'm not sure how you'd do this with other setups, sorry!

Where is it " manually set Enemy Within to run using your graphics card" ? I'm dont have it at my Nvidia control panel

Go to 'manage 3D settings', then 1. select programme (add), 2. select graphics processor, i.e. Nvidia, NOT 'integrated graphics'. If you have a Nvidia card, this should make sense. Otherwise I'm not sure. But you could easily find out how to do this with another graphis card by looking online!

You need to open Nvidia control panel, then take Advance settings - then programm settings, and choose game in box, I have notebook, and if you to, choose also to use Nvidia like your Physx adaptor.

I can confirm that the game is pre-set to use your internal graphics. So here's how to set up it up for XCOM to use your AMD or Nvidia dedicated graphics card: http://www.howtogeek.com/175281/how-to-force-graphics-options-in-pc-games-with-nvidia-amd-or-intel-graphics/

Oh look... another thread over a year old. Awesome.
I'm sure the OP will be able to fix his problem now.

I have same problem as him, and none of the explanation above work, as I have core I5 and radeon r9 270 , not nvidia.

same story, game running sluggishly on intel HD.
i have no idea how to force use GPU for steam or the game
