Low FPS fix for Nvidia Laptops
So far Enemy Within does not want to recognize mobile nvidia cards (I havent met anyone with a mobile ATI card yet).
There is a simple fix for this, just tell your nvidia control panel to add the exe for Enemy Within.

So just go to "manage 3D settings" in your nvidia control panel, then program settings, "add" the exe, and go to the "select the prefered graphics processor for this program." and select "high performance nvidia processor"

The EXE is located in a folder called XEW and then Binaries, then WIN32

So something like this:
steamapps > common >Xcom-Enemy-unknown > XEW > Binaries > Win32

Thank you. The tip allowed me to bump up my framerate by around 10 FPS. I seem to hover around 25 to 28 while in combat missions. If you have any other suggestions to boost framerate I'd be much obliged.

I already have the graphics set to low.

note I haven't really tested it (yet)

EDIT: at least on linux, on enemy within AND unknown, the file is nowhere to be seen.

Once again; old post but still an effective fix.

Thanks!

Thanks you very much for posting this. I just got a new laptop with a nvidia gtx970 in it and you could imagine how frustrating it is when the old games don't run properly on it. Once again many thanks, you made my day!

I wanted to chime in as well - I bought this game at launch, and had given up on playing it since my laptop was only capable of producing about 15fps on all low settings. I manually added the application to the Nvidia panel like you suggested, and I'm getting a solid 40fps on medium now. You're my freakin' hero! I almost bought the game for PS3 just to have a chance at playing it before jumping on to Xcom 2 on console.

tl;dr - you da real MVP.

Having never had a radeon laptop, I would not know how this could be done on one. But, considering you don't own the game. I suppose it shouldn't matter to you.

I owned it and had to refund it because of performance problems.
