This game is great. Flat out 2 is definitely the crown jewel of the series and ultimate carnage polishes it up nicely. Thankfully they've removed the DRM and made it steam deck compatible too.

Probably should have reviewed this a few years back. I bought it years ago. I love this game. I'm not into multiplayer so it not having it doesn't bother me at all.
I've played through this game numerous times as it has that replay-ability factor. Even now, in 2024, its graphics are not embarrassed, the driving physics are spot on and the course destructibility is superb. This and the course and car variety, the amount of different challenges, time challenge/death match/racing and the side challenges of 10 pin bowling, skimming across a swimming pool, basket ball, high jump etc. Then there's the upgrades you can buy for your chosen vehicle, a little linear but still adds interest.
The different terrain of dirt roads with loads of dust being kicked up and tarmac roads with kerbs that will punish you to shopping mall shiny floors that become skating rinks to your car. Loads of jumps, ditches, hazards, fences, exploding petrol pumps that will give your driving skills a run for their money and that's not too mention the other drivers who can't wait to destroy you.

The music is now classic to my ears simply because i've been playing it so long..it sure beats whatever that awful generic hood rap stuff is they use for nearly every modern street racing game that has come out since

Surprisingly fun.
Obviously, from a stand point of knowing it's not a modern game, it actually runs well and looks really good graphically with a decent amount of race track variety and stupid fun game modes!
But, of course, there's flaws. For me, soundtrack seemed limited ( maybe licensing issues ) but also no variety, even with the different bands playing it seemed all the same, so it does get quite annoying but lower the music and SFX are decent. Occasional frustrating "bumps" on the road that can holt your car to a stop out of the blue and just mess up the fun or win.
Other than that, Flatout is still a great fun racing game that holds up today, just with some small 2000's game nuisance.
