AI not firing proper cannon ammo?

I've noticed that the only round that the cannons ever fire is the standard cannon ball. I know that the AI focuses on one specific ammo type for certain targets, but it seems like they should be firing explosive or shrapnel rounds against infantry, switching to standard or incendiary for attacking stationary weapons.
