Mount & Blade: Warband

Prophesy of Pendor v3.9.5
Best mod of all but there are three things that I hate ...
I have played and enjoyed this mod for countless hours, but with the latest (otherwise excellent) update I find three things that bother me (a little):
- Taking castles/towns you have to garrison them from you own force, which means that you will have to either put two or three hundred of your troops in there to have at least a small garrison or you garrison it with a token force of fifty or so. First way round you have to replenish your troop before you can take another castle/town, second way the town is easy picking for an AI counterattack. The AI doesn't have this restriction and can always garrison a conquered castle town with 200-300 troops. This was imho better in earlier versions of the game.
- Lords can lead troops over their limit, commanding 200% or more of their ideal army size. PC can't. Thus you can encounter lords with 400-500 troops or more, while you're restricted by your max command limit.
- You don't get prisoners/loot from successfull siege defenses, like helping defend Ethos against a snake cult army attack or such. You just get some renown and XP.
Maybe these are vanilla related restictions but still it's a little annoying.

1. Player is smarter then AI, should be able to handle this. In case player is not, there is an option to set campaign AI to low which reduces number of soldiers lords recruit to the field armies and leave in just taken fiefs.
2. It will cost them a small fortune -> their wealth will be constantly reduced -> no money = desertions & no money = slower army rebuild if something go wrong. 2nd safety feature, which prevents them of having thousand strong army, is so call "ideal party size" to which they heading to automatically and gradually disbanding some soldiers. Long story short - lords will command those armies only for a relatively short time and may end up poor.
3. It would be to lucrative, very exploitable, e.g.: find easy to defend fief (owning it will make it even easier), fill with archers (unlimited ammo when defending) and some cheap infantry with shields (Legionnaires), bait enemy to attack it - minimal losses for loot and prisoners.

Well, wow, thanks for the quick reply! As I said, best mod, best team!
1. Yes you can handle it, it's just a little awkward. If you're the marshall you should be able to order to garrison a conquered city from the army, not just your force or (better) order a lord to garrison/defend the place ("I have a new task for you ...")
2. ok. sounds good, but then why not give the same option to the player (oversize army = lower morale, higher costs - to keep troops happy). This would make playing as a rogue lord or rebellion /claimant supporter somewhat easier as you can then take castles with your force alone.
3. That's possible even now, though without loot, but you can grind down enemy troops this way. It's also possible in the field (depending on the map). Get on the highest hill order your archers and infantry to hold position, shoot one enemy = enemy attacks = beat 400 with 100 (as long as it's not Ravenstern archers on the other side). Jatu and Singallians are pretty suicidal ;-)

1. I agree it is a pain to garrison a new castle/town but it does help to slow down the steamroll.
  • You can award it to a lord and it is insta-garrisoned.
  • You can plan ahead and recruit a ton of troops around the map and garrison them as Level 1 or 3 in a certain feif near the forefront of your conquest zone, making sure to tell the steward not to enable garrison training(so cost stays low). Then when you take a feif as a marshall you can tell one or two of your lords to head to your new feif and they will do so, waiting there quite awhile. Giving you plenty of time to store your combat troops in the feif while you run over and grab all the aforementioned L1 troops.
  • If you are wealthy, you can have the mercenary army following you garrison it for a bit.

2. Yea, they can sometimes get really big. Here is how I handle early game so I don't sweat the big lord armies: When I get my first feif, I ditch my companions and store all troops in the feif. I then go out and farm up Vanskerry Raider parties in the W/NW of map by myself and get a bunch of renown. Make sure to sell off the prisoners in nearby towns or store them in your feif's jail. You will build up large sums of money, renown and levels using this method allowing you to field large armies later on which can handle any pesky lord who fields too big an army.

3. What Konrad said. I mean I agree they could add something to reward us, such as some money and more improved relations with town.
