Starting off there are normal dinos, primal dinos, and ancient dinos (rex turkey mosa).
Killing a Primal awards primal hide (for primal saddles) and primal meat (for later), Primal Stegos are really easy to kill with any decent trike.
Taming them requires instant taming kibble
Ancients are untameable, but killing them is how you get instant taming kibble. Note that they're much stronger.
At any time you can build an ascension portal, this will cause primevals and bosses to start spawning in your world.
Primevals are tamed using satiating nutriment, which is made by combining a primal meat with any primeval energy (acquired by killing primevals). So basically - kill 1 primal and one primeval, and you get an item used to tame a primeval. Indominus Rex is the easiest primeval to kill by far.
Finally bosses, they have a lot of hp, they hurt. You kill them and get a boss item. Combine it with 1 of each primeval energy to make a sacrifice for the boss you killed. You can either combine the sacrifice with element to make a trophy that gives a buff if you give it to a dino, or feed it to a primeval to kill the primeval and get a tamed (much weaker) version of the boss.
Lastly, there's an ascension arena where you fight a series of bosses to unlock upgrades. These are harder than the world bosses. One of them literally summons multiple copies of a world boss as adds.
