DISCLAIMER

THIS IS A CONVERSION FOR YOURSELF AND YOURSELF ONLY. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO UPLOAD IT ANYWHERE, BE IT NEXUS OR BETHESDA.NET OR ANYTHING ELSE SINCE ITS NOT YOUR WORK. (and not mine either.)

THUS A CONSOLE VERSION ISNT GOING TO HAPPEN PERIOD.
(and would probably face other problems too anyway, copyrights etc. idk, not a console user.)

I AM NOT THE AUTHOR OF THIS MOD, I DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM THUS I CANT HELP YOU IF IT BREAKS YOUR GAME OR IF YOU HAVE TECHNICAL QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MOD.
All I do is providing you a way to get it to work with SE.

DO NOT ASK THE ORIGINAL AUTHORS FOR HELP WITH THIS CONVERSION, THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

TESTERS WELCOME , IF YOU FIND FLAWS IN THE PROCESS OR BUGS WITH THE MOD COMMENT HERE FOR OTHERS TO KNOW. ALSO CHECK BELOW FOR BUGS I FOUND ALREADY.

IF THE AUTHORS WISH TO HAVE THIS TUTORIAL TAKEN DOWN, JUST TELL ME.
No need for bad blood. (or do it yourself, you probably can lol)

Why bother?

Ive been using this mod a lot in my Oldrim playthroughs and was very upset seeing it being discontinued.
The Author said iirc it needs SKSE to be ported which isnt going to happen for SE anytime soon.
I am only using this mod for its excellent spells however (thus 0 interest in Uchiha clan etc.) and was wondering what exactly the SKSE requirement was when others got it to work too.

Long story short, it works appearantly fine with just a few minor issues. (see below)

for the time being, there wont be an official Port of this mod but appearantly there is demand so this Tutorial was created to prevent People from (more) incorrectly porting the Mod to their games until someone takes over N.O..

________________________________________________________________________

There are two ways to get it to work.
the easy one:
unpack .bsa, Copy paste esp and unpacked bsa files into Data Folder

and the more complicated way of
unpack .bsa --> convert meshes --> repack to new SE bsa --> copy paste esp, bsa, bsl into Data folder --> resave esp

DO NOT USE THE EASY WAY.
I tried both. the easy way is causing invisible items (notably Armor and some weapons),
not properly working animations (not spinning Rasenshuriken anim., Rasengan problems)
and using oldrim .esp in SE appearantly can cause CTD (crash to desktop) and other issues according to well known modders.

the complicated way does not have those issues. I tested out every Armor, Weapon and spell on the innocent citizens of riverwood and they all seem to work so far. its also easier to remove from your installation again.

So we are going with the complicated way, but its not that hard. What you need:

- A windows PC. (duh.)
- Oldrim to download the Modfiles here from Steam

- BAE (Bethesda Archive Extractor) available here http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/974/? (no installation needed.)

- SSE nif optimizer available here http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4089/? (no installation needed.)

- Skyrim Special Edition (SSE)
- the SSE Creation Kit (CK) available from Bethesda.net, it requires an account there for the download.
Instructions: https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Getting_Started

________________________________________________________________________

So lets get started.

Step 1.

Download the modfiles with the old Skyrim from Steam.
go to your installation Folder of Skyrim (Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim) and open the Data Folder.
look for Naruto Overhaul.bsa and Naruto Overhaul.esp.
copy/Paste them to a new Folder outside of Skyrims, one on the Desktop for example.
(you can delete these Files later.)

Step 2.

Download and extract BAE. start bae.exe and drag and drop the Naruto Overhaul.bsa
you just downloaded in the BAE window.
make sure you see Ticks on everything. (just hit "Select All" to be sure)
create a new folder somewhere, name it for example "unpacked bsa oldrim" and click "extract" in BAE.
navigate to the new Folder you just created and continue. close BAE.

you should be faced with 4 Subfolders now: meshes, textures, sound and scripts, all
full of subfolders and files. the meshes folder is of interest now.
copy the "meshes" folder out of the 4 to another place, say the desktop.

Step 3.

Download and extract SSE nif optimizer. Start "SSE NIF Optimizer.exe"
click "Browse" and navigate to the meshes folder you copied in Step 2. click it once and then click "open".

(we copied it so you have a backup of the untouched extracted oldrim bsa, in case something goes wrong).

there should be ticks on "Sub Directories", "Delete Unreferenced Blocks", "Clean Skinning" and "Remove Parallax" only. Hit "Optimize".

(you may have to enlarge the SSE nif optimizer window to be able to see the optimize button.)

Step 4.

We have converted the meshes to a Format that SSE supports. now we need to repackage everything to a new BSA format that SSE can read.

the meshes folder you copied in Step 2 is now converted. Make a new Folder, name it "Optimized bsa" and move the converted meshes folder into it.

then go to your "unpacked bsa oldrim" Folder from Step 2 and copy/paste ONLY the textures, sound and scripts folders into the new folder with the converted meshes.

(Note: NOT INTO THE MESHES FOLDER. when you open "optimized bsa" there should be 4 folders, just like "unpacked bsa oldrim".)

Navigate to your Skyrim Special Edition Folder
(Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition).
find the "Tools" Folder.
inside the Tools folder and its "Archive" subfolder, you find "Archive.exe". start it.

below the empty white window, you see "Root Dir:", a white line and a "..." button.
press that button and navigate to the "optimized bsa" folder.
---> "Root Dir: <whereveryourfolderis>\optimized bsa" should appear.

next hit edit on the taskbar of the program. click "Add Directory" and navigate to the
exact same Folder "optimized bsa". a ton of things will pop up in the white window, all
the data content of the Folder.

Hit Edit again, select "check all items" and tick "compress archive", "meshes", "textures", and "sounds" above the window.
once you did that, go to File --> Save as in the Taskbar. navigate anywhere and save it as "Naruto Overhaul.bsa"

(it is important that you use EXACTLY THAT NAME. (without "))

the process may take a while. once "Naruto Overhaul.bsa" and "Naruto Overhaul.bsl"
appear and the Progress bar is finished you can close the Program.

Additionally, you can check with BAE now if the Folder Structure of the converted .bsa
is idendical to the old .bsa you downloaded. It should. if it isnt, abort mission and start over.

Step 5. almost done.

now copy your newly created "Naruto Overhaul.bsa" and "Naruto Overhaul.bsl" aswell as the "Naruto Overhaul.esp" from step 1 into the Data Folder of SSE.(Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data)

download, install and open the CK from bethesda.net. (instructions in the link above in "what you need")

once it started, go to "load Master/Plugin files" (small folder icon top left) and pick "Naruto Overhaul.esp", set it as the active File below the CK will continue to load the esp aswell as its requirements and will spam a ton of error messages while doing so. just "Yes" or "Yes to all" them away.

once its done, just hit save right next to the load icon. again, it will spam errors. yes to all. after that is done, close the CK.

Step 6.

Remember to tick "Naruto Overhaul.esp" as active File in your SSE loadorder.
Thats it, it should now function as good as possible without an official Port. there are
however minor issues I came across that may or may not come from the Porting procedure.

BUGS AND KNOWN ISSUES / WEIRD STUFF I NOTICED:

- ISSUE: USING EYE POWERS WILL GET YOU STUCK WITH THOSE EYE TEXTURES
EVEN AFTER DEACTIVATION.
almost guaranteed to be caused by missing SKSE I think. can probably be fixed by using
racemenu command or the face sculptor but using Sharingan/Byakugan again will reproduce the Issue.

Solution:
saving and reloading will solve the issue until you use sharingan/Byakugan again.
Vampires dont have this issue, their Vampire eye texture wont be replaced at any time.
(tested with Better Vampires 8.1 active)

- explosive Tags work but have a black texture around them. no idea if thats in oldrim too, meant to be or a conversion bug.

- Medical ninjutsu is not benefitting from the Respite Perk in the Restoration Tree. also the case in the original oldrim version.

- kamui dimension has some weird light issues going on, basically a black wall of shadow. never used it before so no idea whats going on with it.

- Amaterasu is a Dragon Shout that needs souls (probably intended) but shows a CD that it doesnt have. unlikely to be caused by converting I think.

- Byakugan is very bright blue but thats probably also intended.

- annoying short light flash when using kyuubi transformation, tenseigan mode, Sharingan.

- Gates 6 - 8 and the Sage mode have minor Pixelation issues with their effects. this is either an intended visual effect or caused by conversion or just a graphical glitch. cant test how it looks like in oldrim atm.

- the truth balls go through godmode somehow and almost killed me during testing. pretty interesting huh.

- the mudcrab summoned by the spell is on some weird drugs. maybe its intended but its super fast.

All thats left to say is thanks to the countless Svens and Faendalls that I produced to test these Spells and weapons on. you may be remembered and probably abused again later.
Or perhaps im just going to use Nazeem like everyone else does...
