If you happened to pass through a patch of mushrooms then that would be your answer. When near mushrooms (particularly in the redwoods) watch out for red ones. The red ones will hide red cone shaped mushrooms with red stems. The cone shaped red mushrooms release spores into the air that will cause you to hallucinate. These are the same mushrooms found on aberration so you have to be careful. On that note there are also blue coil shaped mushrooms that will make you freeze to death on aberration as well. I have yet to find them on this map, but they are also something I would keep an eye out for.
