More assets loaded than actually counted in Asset Browser
Dear all, dear Thale5,
first of all, I want to say a huge Thank you, for this amazing, game-changing Mod. I don't think that I could go back to the "before LSM"-days!

I noticed something weird recently with the count of loaded assets and I have a slight suspicion that LSM doesn't count all of them. I did three different tests on my machine:

During the first test, I loaded CS with only mods on. LSM showed 40 assets (mostly Ploppable Asphalt +, NEXT2 etc.). Reading through the LSM Report and Asset Browser afterwards, I copied the asset list in an excel sheet. The count of Assets was correct, at 40.

Test two was bigger, I loaded up about 350 Workshop-Subscriptions (I do know that one subscription can contain many assets) and fired up CS. Afterwards, reading through the LSM Report and comparing the lists (again in Excel), I noticed the first weird part. Custom Assets Loaded was at 707. That's OK, but the copied Asset List in Excel showed 624 Assets. So, 83 Assets more loaded? From where? Which assets?

Test three was insane... I didn't count how many subscriptions I had, but I fired up CS again. Custom Assets Loaded where 8234 (!!). It took about 20 minutes to load on an empty map. The game was of course slightly unplayable, but I did not intend to play with that many assets but to count them. Reading through the Report and copying the Asset Browser, I dint count 8234 Assets, but 7167.

So, 1067 Assets less shown in the Browser & Report, than actually loaded. It really got me confused. The LSM-Report and Browser show only the subscribed Assets and not the Vanilla-ones... These numbers included also the missing assets. So I don't have any clue, what is happening. Where did the "extre" loaded Assets come from?

Does anybody have an Idea, what is going on? What am I missing?
I don't imply that this is some kind of bug... because I don't know if I am missing something important out. And in general, it is maybe a minor thing... but I just wanted to ask!

Hi, this is a good question and I'm glad to provide an answer.

Asset is a rather vague term in this game. Usually, when people say 'Asset' they mean the main assets that are shown in Content Manager. In reality, however, there are additional types of assets, namely sub-buildings, vehicle trailers, road elevations, and prop variations.

The Custom Assets Loaded count includes all assets. That makes sense because the count is used to reflect loading speed and memory usage. All assets take time to load and occupy space in memory.

In the reports, however, sub-buildings, trailers, elevations and variations are hidden as much as possible*. That makes sense because the secondary assets are not that interesting from a player view point. As an example, this asset contains a main vehicle and 33 trailers. Reporting 34 lines for one 'Asset' would clutter the report.

* Missing assets are a complication here. Let's say the mod notices two missing vehicles, both from the same subscription. These are reported as what they seem, two missing vehicles. After the user subscribes to the vehicles, the mod notices that the second one is actually just a trailer and reports just the main vehicle. But the assets loaded count is still two for them.

I never thought about sub-buildings etc. But this makes totally sense... I knew I was missing something out!
