Loading Screen Mod

Game will not load after update to macOS Catalina 10.15.4 (Using Loading Screen Mod)
I am having issues starting a new game / loading saves after updating to macOS Catalina.

I am using loading screen mod. Saves load fine if I turn off the "Load Enabled Assets" and leave the "Load Used Assets" option turned on – but I'd like to be able to start a new save or load a previous save with all assets available.

When “Load Enabled Assets” is turned on, loading screen mod appears, all of the assets appear to load, and then the game stalls out with the blue loading bar almost full.

I've tried uninsalling steam, uninstalling cities skylines, deleting my workshop folder and forcing steam to re-download all subscribed assets, but nothing seems to work. Everything was working fine on macOS Mojave (10.14)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've logged over 2,600 hours in Cities: Skylines and I'm nowhere near done. :)

@jacknv2 I am pretty sure it is an out-of-memory situation. By disabling "Load Enabled", you are obviously loading fewer assets, which saves memory. The end of your Player.log should indicate if out of memory has happened (sometimes the log just stops abruptly).

Of course, if some of your assets are reported as failed, you should disable those ones.

Reinstalling stuff is not going to help. You just get the same files back.

I guess your operating system is using more RAM after the update. I don't know how to increase the size of the page file in macOS but you should look that up.

Also, are there some new background apps or services running after the update?

Thanks so much for your reply! I figured it might be some new memory handling issue in macOS Catalina. I will attempt to unsubscribe from more assets and see if I get anywhere.

If it helps, the last line I see in my "Player.log" file after the game locks up during loading is:
Receiving unhandled NULL exception
Obtained 11 stack frames.

Any additional insight would be great. Your mod is amazing – thanks for continuing to update and provide support.

That errors message tells that it is a "hard" crash, i.e. one that comes from the native system. It is not the more typical managed exception from the Mono executive.

Native system crashes are nastier because they are associated with the hardware: running out of memory, memory defects, GPU issues, driver issues, file system issues, and so on.

I googled that error message but could not pin it down to any single reason. Seems that it is always Unity-related and the operating system is always Linux or OSX.

My advice is to monitor memory usage while you load. This game can load a lot of content using the page file but when stressed enough it will eventually crash. Some computers sooner, some later.
