Roads United Core 2.0

Textures don't appear zoomed out
Roads United, until a few days ago, rendered the textures at all zoom levels. However, since the most recent update, the textures revert back to Vanilla after zooming out a decent amount. This isn't that annoying, but looks a little funky when the camera is titled, and the roads change color in the distance.

FWIW: I don't have the North American texture pack.

Do you use the Loading Screen Mod? I read that he fixed the lod textures or something, might affect this mod (noticed this also here).
I haven't figured out how to update the Texture Atlas, which is used when zooming out.Any help welcome with this.

I thought this is normal :D

Unfortunately not ;)
I found some code in NExt which should create (update?) the atlas, but not tested yet.

I don't use the loading screen mod. I was considering it, but I'll stay away from it for a while to avoid further conflict.

I don't know much about coding, nor modding, nor much of anything about the source of the game. So I won't be of much help to you, in terms of figuring out how to modify the texture atlas. Though it sounds like you might be onto something?

Hmm. I started my game up and the problem no longer exists. Maybe my last load-up was corrupt. Or maybe you updated something? Who knows. Happy things are back to normal on my end, at least.

@e.peters: Roads United seems to be the only texture mod that is consistent between all zoom levels (which is awesome). The vast majority seem to only work when zoomed in (for example, if there were 10 zoom levels, the custom textures would only work between 1-5, with 6-10 using the texture atlas, which is based on the vanilla textures). This is super annoying, because anytime you tilt the camera, the textures in the foreground would look different than in the background.

EDIT to specify: "zoom" meaning distance from camera to object, not necessarily the placement of the camera in relation to sea level.

RU is my first mod ever, I also had no experience in coding when I started in January.
Some things are still very complex if you don't know the backgrounds.
CS has 3 zoom levels, #1 uses 1024x1024 textures, #2 is the atlas, #3 are lod textures at 256x256. #1 is covered by the Core, #2 is something I don't understand which is mainly made up of #3 which I will add for all textures as soon as I get 2 working.

The lod distance is change by the mod from 300 to 2500, otherwise #2 would show up about 70 meters from ground level.
I have in mind to either figure out how #2 is updated, or how to skip #2 and go straight to #3.

I will test this again, I was sad when I tested it last time with the american skin, the color was so drastic when zooming just a little I was getting dizzy... lol I do fly around a lot with the camera, but i will test again since it could have been a conflict, I thought everyone was getitng that but from what others said above thats not so.

seems my problem was I was using the sliders and had forgotten, thats why the contrasting switch in lod transitions was so drastic. I disabled the loading screen mod to test and it seems to make no effect on Roads United, I still get a pretty strong change over effect but its not as strong now so im much happier. I suppose the LOD of roads is a game issue?
Killface  [developer] May 26, 2016 @ 3:36am
Thats's right. The regular colors show up when the transparancy texture disappears. I can set the lod distance to even more, but this might lead to performance issures, cause only hires textures are used for displaying ll visible roads. I posted on Reddit and the CS forums, but no answer since the last four weeks.

No worries, I love this mod! Its a lot better since I disabled the sliders, I love having the real american roads its quite nice. Are you a member over at Simtropolis? There are some super modders around there usually that might answer your questions better than on reddit or steam.

I don't understand, is there a fix to this or not, this is very obvious at my resolution and screen size (I play @ 3840x2160):

Red circled where the textures go from the German ones of tis mod, to ugly stock game ones.

My pc should be able to take it, I have a hexa core i7 @ 5.4ghz (8700k), 32gb ram and a 980Ti... Is there a setting/config to increase the distance of the textures, or are there ''zoomed out'' textures available?

Roads United was updated several weeks ago, but none of the texture packs have been updated to take advantage of the new naming system. I would recommend unsubscribing to all Roads United-related mods until the texture packs are updated. I personally switched to the "Road Options a.k.a Crosswalks Remover / Road Colors Changer ++" mod, which is sort of a texture mod but less invasive. Things still look funky when zoomed out, but it's a good replacement until RU is updated.

I'm not sure if I can fix this, it's an issue since the first texture replacer. The game uses a texture atlas https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?attachments/rt_dump__1-png.171480/ for the zoomed out textures, and as long as this texture is not changed, the vanilla textures will bubble through. Else I can change the render distance for the hires textures, but this will kill performance when zoomed out/many roads visible.
