Kotzebuesund may sound a tad like puke, but the fellow after whom the city/sound is named was (Baltic) German link[de.wikipedia.org], so sometimes these things just happen... Imagine the poor fellow's school years ;)

The rest look excellent. I can't say for sure about the West Slavic ones, either, but there are as good as I could have done, and I'd also tend to agree about Swiss naming tendancies.

As a life long Resident of the old Dutch colony in New Jersey, as well as a trained historian, I would just like to add that the Raritan province should be more properly called Bergen when owned by the Dutch culture (Bergen being the name of the whole province, with Pavonia being a single, if central, settlement of that province). Under the British, Raritan should be called East Jersey, while Unami called West Jersey.

(If what reddbane wrote is true, then the german name for Raritan could be adjusted to "Bergen" as well, if you want to)

Bergen was just the name the Dutch called their colony in the region (just as the English would later rename it Jersey), not the Dutch translation of Raritan. I don't know if calling the German version Bergen would make much sense, as it would be similar to having German New York be called New Amsterdam, simply because it was what another germanic people called it. What I'm getting at is, in this case, its less a matter of translation and of simple historical fact.

Cheers. I haven't gotten to overhauling the Eastern coast of the US (mostly because it is immensely better in vanilla than the rest of the New World), so I can't use Pavonia just yet, but that is helpful for future reference and in the short term localised naming for Dutch.

German is closer to Dutch than it is to English, on a theoretical level, anyhow. I'll trust Arga's judgement here, though. Generally native speakers first when dealing with localised naming, if they are available.

Indeed, that is what I meant. With the addendum that native speakers get veto power, should the result sound odd to them.

Generally, the localised naming work I have done has very much been along these lines. I'm simply not creative enough to think up any names without such a context ;p.
