Story wise, Chernarus would be great.
Chernarus [An A2 map.] is supposed to be just south of Russia. In the A2 story line, there's a conflict going on between irregular groups, Russia, the local government and the USMC [Marine Corps indeed.], i actually wrote a lot about the story in this comment but decided to delete it because it's not important.
Also, I'd like to read your mission story. :(
No it's not my story, it's official A2 story [And A3 continues it i guess.].
Chedaki insurgents nearly wiped out the local defense force, CDF, in a violent campaign. The US responded by sending the USMC to stop them. The Chedaki, looking for outside help, did a terrorist event at nearby Russia and framed a rival guerrilla group, the NAPA. Russia invaded Chernarus to crush NAPA, while secretly supporting the Chedakis, without knowing that NAPA wasn't responsible for the terrorist event, and the Chedakis are really the ones behind it. Based on the player's choice in Arma 2, Russia may formally take over the USMC peacekeeping campaign, or the player may stay and fight unofficially along side NAPA without support from the US. After some time, if enough evidence is gathered, the USMC will re-invade Chernarus. If things go peacefully and evidence against Chedakis are provided to the Russians, they will formally withdraw from Chernarus, however if they don't get evidence, they will nuke the country. The player's group can also at multiple points of the story, die. Multiple ending campaign.
For some reason however, despite the Russians supposedly being peacekeepers, just like the Americans, they're both opposing factions in the game, BLUFOR and OPFOR.
PS: When you think about it, DUWS is a lot about open warfare, the kind you usually see, instead of CQB or urban warfare.
Now I didn't get a chance to try the mission in MP, but when just previewing in the editor, I don't see any option to request a side mission from the commander. Did I miss an option somewhere? Side missions are in the scroll wheel options for the commander, right?
Side missions are in the requests menu [Available at commander.], top right corner, blue button, clearly says it there.
May lag while it finds 7 random safe places, then you just need to choose the side mission you want. One of each possible type will always be available as you choose side missions.
