Bugs Go In Here: Episode 3: Revenge of the Bugs
Reporting Issues

This is where bugs go! I appreciate any and all bugs, no matter how trivial they might seem. My goal is to end up with a campaign that seems as polished as the ones released by HBS, so if anything strikes you as wrong, I want to fix it.

If you’re reporting a typo, including an exact quote with the typo would be best. Screenshots also work fine. Or just give as much info as you can remember about it.

For graphical glitches (clipped objects, ugly lighting, etc.), screenshots are really helpful - you can upload to a service like imgur[imgur.com] and paste the link here. Or just describe where you noticed the problem and what you saw.

Finally, for actual functional bugs (game freezes, looping dialogue, missing rewards, anything else that impacts gameplay), the single most helpful thing for me is steps to reproduce. Try to be as detailed as possible: where you were, what you were doing before the problem occurred, and what happened after.

Thanks! Running into bugs sucks, but by taking the time to report it, you're helping to make a better game for everyone who plays after you.

Known Issues

Crew Portraits Do Not Change in Crew Advance UI

This is a cosmetic glitch, but you should still be able to switch between characters and make your selections. After you have selected and confirmed your upgrades, the portraits will switch properly and you can view their stat gains.

Crew Items Duplicated in Stash

This is an engine bug, also present in the base Hong Kong game. It seems to occur randomly before certain runs. It shouldn't cause any other problems.

Mind-control spells may not work

This impacts spells like "Mind Wipe" and "Confuse". Several players have reported that the spells sometimes do not work. The same issues were reported in the base Hong Kong game, and seem essentially random - some players encounter the bug, and others do not.

Limited Music

There's some recycling of music between multiple maps. Harebrained Schemes removed all of the old music from Dead Man's Switch and Dragonfall from Hong Kong, and many of the (excellent) Hong Kong tracks have a strong Chinese sound which is not appropriate for this campaign. I did the best I could with the few tracks available to me.

If you're looking for some other cyberpunky music to supplement this run, I recommend Invocation Array[invocationarray.bandcamp.com], The Glitch Mob[soundcloud.com], and Fever Ray[soundcloud.com].

Old Issues

The first two bug threads are still available in read-only mode. I believe that all issues raised in those threads have been addressed as of version 0.7.6. If you previously reported a bug and still see it happening in the current versions, please re-post it here.

@april_showers, may_tetris: Thanks for the report! Yep, that's definitely a bug - I'll include a fix in the next patch. I appreciate the compliment, too, glad to hear that you've enjoyed the game!

@ebbpp: Thank you, I appreciate the detailed write-up! Lots of good notes here - I won't be able to fix all of them, but wanted to give you the status on each.
1. Drones in the basement: Good catch, thanks. I'll add a fix for the next patch.
2. Blank keycard: This is intentional. You only have fingerprints for Cameron Ueda, so you can only place his identity on the card. However, you can separately acquire a card from Taylor Minami.
3. Fight with turrets and soldiers while exiting the building: This looks strange, but I don't think I'll be able to improve it without adding worse bugs. It's been a while since I've looked at it, though, so I might attempt another fix later.
4. Retrieving the unicorn horn and nanohive: I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. Are you sure you didn't pick up the nanohive from one of the other stalls? You are attacked soon after picking it up, so you might not have noticed the message. If you run into this again, can you please check your PDA and let me know the status of your goals ("Find a Black Unicorn Horn", "Find a Nanohive", and "Return to Halferville") as well as the Mission Items ("Nanohive" and "Black Unicorn Horn").
5. Missing dialogue lines. This is intentional, but something I should improve. You can only talk with team members a certain number of times between missions. Options that disappear will still be available after the next mission completes. But this is probably confusing, I'll check to see if there's a better way to show the options.
6. Fight on the ship. A few other people have mentioned that this situation is confusing, I still need to add some more dialogue to clarify the fight.
7. Mines. Yes, they're currently just in the Sable mission. I thought it was annoying to have them in too many places.
8. Black IC usually only appear in corporate systems, like Shiawase, and only if you set off the Matrix alarm. If you are a careful decker, you will not see them. (Hopefully a good thing!)
9. Extra loot from your team. This is a bug in the Shadowrun engine, unfortunately I can't fix it.
10. Kora's Matrix skills. Kora has high Decking, but no ESP Control, so she isn't able to use the ESPs like Firewall.
11. Dragon. This is kind of an easter egg for players who finished Antumbra Saga. It's intended to be mysterious.
12. Allied Aim not working. Thanks for the note - I haven't been able to reproduce, but I'll add it to the list. (EDIT: More details on this: Have you tried casting it on yourself? It's a buffing power, similar to a totem, not a spell you cast directly on an ally.)
13. Favor system. High favor makes your team mates more friendly and keeps them from leaving, but does not provide additional benefits. It's more for fun than for power.

Thanks again for the reports, I appreciate you taking the time to write them up!

Thanks for the report - I haven't been able to reproduce this yet, but there is some wonkiness in how this scene is constructed. I'll try running it in a few different configurations & may hit you up if I'm still unable to replicate the problem.
ebbpp May 11, 2017 @ 10:49am
4. No promises, but I'll try to find old save and see if I had missed something.
8. Well, Black ICs are just an example. I've played on normal, so yes probably it gets harder on hard setting, but in general where regular fight ware challenging the matrix wasn't. I don't know, on vanilla there ware some turn limits, it was easier to spring the alarm, just my feeling.
10. I understand, however it seems it's another engine glitch, as description is only saying ESP Controls enhances programs straight and health, not to mention in such case programs shouldn't be equipable, ohh well. Btw. Kora could use actual new legs after operation, the character figure is updated with cyberwere add-ons, team should also, but I guess it's just an other engine glitch. Speaking off visual things, Persi should lie on hospital bad not on the floor, but again I guess it's engine glitch.
12. Well, I have used on caster exactly on that orc guy, and it didn't affect any of the allies, quite sad, upgraded wild aim was quite fun.
Thank you for the replay and desire to continuing fixing this mod. Hoping that maybe there will be more such mods from you.

I did a second run through with a different character, and the bug didn't occur. It may be a sporadic thing, heck, it may even depend on what the main character is like. Everything functioned normally on the second run through, however.

Thanks, that's good to know. What character type were you using the first time when you experienced the problem?
frdnwsm May 12, 2017 @ 2:26pm
Actually, I doubt that it's the main character; I was just bringing that up as a possibility. It could just as well be where I placed the two characters in the car, or maybe it's the phase of the moon.

Anyway, the first run was with a troll close combat adept with a bunch of Chi casting skills, while the second was a troll whose only attack form was thrown weapons, and having a number of conjuring support spells ... haste. blur, armor etc.

Trolls are my race of choice, for pragmatic reasons, for most professions. Obviously not for heavy duty conjuring, due to their low charisma ceiling.

P.S. Shurikens are awsome when backed up by troll strength. Range of 15, and a hit knocks the target out of cover; this is just like a close combat build hitting in melee, except that you can stay well back and under cover while doing so.

Just subscribed to the mod. When I start the game I only get the HBS logo and then the game goes to a black screen and won't load up anything else. It just sits there playing the opening background music.

This is a major bug for me at least. I can't get into the game at all. I'm playing the Extended Edition as it is the only version available on Steam right now.

I hope this gets fixed soon. I'd love to play this.
cirion  [developer] Jun 26, 2017 @ 4:08pm
@Heather: Sorry to hear about the problem! If I understand correctly, it sounds like you aren't able to even get to the main menu? If that's the case, then it sounds like a problem with the base Hong Kong game, not with this campaign. You might want to check out the official troubleshooting steps if you haven't already. There aren't any specific requirements on my campaign, so once you're able to run the built-in Hong Kong campaign, you should be able to start mine.

If I've misunderstood and you're able to play the built-in Hong Kong campaign but not The Caldecott Caper, please first follow the instructions at the link above to clear UGC and then re-subscribe to this campaign. If that doesn't work, please follow the steps above under "Advanced Reporting" and send me your debug log. Cheers!

I found an issue before going on the train run, if you speak with Rigger (can't remember her name x.x) you start a conversation about the run and speak about what happened during it, even though you havent done it yet. IT kind of spoiled it for me lol. Not sure if it was a one time thing or not
cirion  [developer] Jul 20, 2017 @ 7:25pm
@TransparentColours Thanks for the report! I haven't been able to reproduce that glitch, but from looking through the code I found something odd that might have been the cause. I'll have a potential fix available in the next patch. Thanks again for letting me know about it!
Arcitens Sep 3, 2017 @ 12:37pm
Not sure about steps to reproduce, but when I was in combat in the mines under Halferville, there was never any end combat trigger even after each of the individual battles. So I had to go from the battle in the main room to the battle behind the rubble where you find Phoenix and back again all in turn-based mode. Only thing I can think of that might have caused it is that I manually switched into turn-based mode to position characters as they entered the main room. But I'm unable to manually close out of turn-based mode (the gun icon is unclickable). Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
cirion  [developer] Sep 3, 2017 @ 10:56pm
@Arcitens: Thanks for the report! I was able to reproduce this... it doesn't happen every time, but it looks like the root problem is the monsters in the southwest cavern. If you kill them, then it reverts to freemove; if you attack close to them, then they can aggro and keep it in turn-based, even though they don't join in the fight.

I haven't found a proper fix for this yet, but I'll try a few other things. In the meantime, if anyone else runs into this, the easiest work-around is to clear out the basilisk and scorpyine in the southwest part of the cave.

Thanks once more for the bug report, I appreciate it!
cheesus Sep 9, 2017 @ 1:18pm
Ok I first wrote this in the general comments and only then saw this thread, sorry about that.
-In the final fight (I had the all vs. all ending with ava distrusting me), after I killed ava and had to exit the building, I still had to kill the other force but couldnt do so in one turn, which was a problem since I could no longer go upstairs, nor activate the hemlock suppression with the drone I had stationed next to the terminal. So I got whiped out by the Hemlock.
Luckily I saved just after the fight began and worked around it by killing Ava last and getting out before the Hemlock killed me.

-Also, the hemlock suppression always used all remaining AP, which was a bit annoying.

@cheesus: Thanks for the detailed bug report, that was very helpful! I was able to reproduce the problem, and will have a fix in the next patch. Happy to hear that you found a work-around in the meantime. Cheers!

Rafik can't use his lv4 earth spirit talisman at crew lv3 as the talisman doesn't appear in his inventory during a mission. It needs a Spirit Summon of 4 when Rafik only has only 3.

It might be best to Improve Rafik's summoning as a lv3 earth spirit also require Spirit Summon 4 or create a unique earth talisman with a lowered Spirit Summon requirement for him to use.
