Thoughts on Difficulty
I've put about 6-8 hours into this mod now with a friend, and let me say, it hasn't been a very joyous experience. We have progressed literally nowhere, and have only managed to complete one mission successfully (Supplies delivery). I'm not asking for the game to be easy by any means, I only wish it to be more reasonable.

The first mission my friend and I tried was an assassination mission. After killing 2 guys, my friend died, then I killed 3, but was unable to complete the asssination alone, so I drove back to base to pickup my friend. On our way back to the mission, the task was cancelled and it said we had to protect Petros at the HQ. The enemy sent literally (no exaggeration here) 3 helicopter gunships that wiped us out, and Petros.

WHY does this happen? HOW are we supposed to do anything when all we have are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PDWs??

The first mission we ever came close to completing was a refugee evac. We piled all the refugees in a truck, and drove out of the town without any of them dying. So far so good. Unfortunately, the enemy had a roadblock just outside the town. The HMGs at the roadblock fired at our truck, popped a tire in the first half second of firing which caused us to flip, then killed us and all the refugees in about 3 seconds. Fantastic.

Now, I'm not requesting easy missions. I'm requesting reasonable missions. And please, mark the missions by difficulty so we don't waste time and resources driving to a mission only to be taken out by an armored car with a machine gun once we arrive, when again, all we have are PDWs.

And since the dev most likely won't implement this, or even bother to read my post, PLEASE, does anyone have any tips on how to progress past the point of a meager existence? Your pissed off Wolf, ~Lone.

if you go to the arsenal there will be an option that says inventory. There is where you have other guns and items. ALso the side missions are good to do but some of them will be hard.... I suggest you look for a small outpost or roadblock as you first target.. load a truck up with the gear and take it back to you base( keep in mind reinforcements can arrive to re secure the place you attacked). Keep attacking small places first until you have enough money and resources to do more difficult side missions and attack bigger bases... I suggest you look at these videos....

Tips for ya xLonexWolvzx: Use mortars more. Buy AI soldiers. Conduct recce before conducting operations. (ie, if you find and neutralise the roadblock with mortars before you drive through it then it won't kill you).

The six categories of missions you can request from Petros differ vastly in terms of difficulty, and even within a category you will find easy ones and hard ones. Plus, the location of the mission plays a major factor as well. Getting refugees out of a building at the edge of a small village is easy, getting them out of a major town surrounded by OPs is a different beast entirely.

Generally, the easiest missions in the beginning are "Refugee Evac" and "City Supplies".

Assassinations on the other hand... you were in for a nasty surprise if you don't know what to expect. Basically, the guy is guarded by 2 CSAT and a squad of AAF- very difficult with PDWs, mate. And to make matters worse, if you try and fail to kill him, he gives away the location of your HQ on his return to base, which spawns the "Defend Petros" mission. Your only chance that early in the game: pack up HQ and run like hell. If you don't even try the mission, you'll lose HR and cash, but your HQ will remain safe.

Now, some tips for the early game:
- every town has a garrison (2 infantry, no dog) – they are easy kills, you can even run them over without having your cover blown
- stay undercover in your car, do some recce, find the garrison, etc – position your car as cover and engage
- facilities/installations (power plants, factories, OPs, etc) have roadblocks attached to them, towns do not – clear RBs for gear and .50cal HMGs
- HMGs are the key to the kingdom: stable platform, thermal vision, long range, massive damage – steal them from RBs, then use them yourself to clean RBs/OPs/patrols from long range
- don't try to hold anything in early game, QRF and attacks will turn you into pink mist
- buy a mortar, deploy it at a safe spot and clear RBs/OPs without even bringing a rifle – but mind the spawn distance and DON'T USE IT NEAR HQ
- bring military Zamaks back to HQ, they sell for 300 a pop
- raid OPs for equipment, those crates hold some great gear early on

These are great tips guys! I really appreciate it. I think it's kind of stupid that we can't have ARs in the beginning yet we can have mortars, but how do I buy a mortar? I looked online for the answer, but found no answer
Scopuli May 28, 2016 @ 11:24am
HQ Menu (flag pole) -> buy vehicle -> military -> mortar

Or if you have the money, you can buy an entire mortar squad as a HC unit: menu ("Y") -> recruit squad -> mortar truck

Thing is though, both mortars and .50cal HMGs kind of ruin the balance of the game, particularly in the early stages. The beautiful undercover mechanic, especially being undercover on foot, loses a lot of its value when you can just as well mount a .50 on a hilltop and mow down entire army bases full of troops right from the beginning. They do make it a lot easier to learn the basics of the scenario, but the more acquainted you become with the map and the mechanics... well, they kinda take away some of the fun.

If you have any more questions or are curious about early game strategies, just ask here or over at http://a3antistasi.com/

I respectfully disagree. Mortars are paramount and mean the difference between death and survival the first time a truck full of enemy unloads 200m from your position. If you're gonna be frivolous and use the mortar on every 2 man patrol you'll soon find you've run out of ammo when it matters. If you dont take proper precautions you'll also find an enemy QRF has found and neutralised your mortar team.....and those things are expensive!

This is all really helpful guys I appreciate it! How do I utilize the undercover mechanic better? It seems I always get reported by civilians when driving around.
Scopuli May 29, 2016 @ 9:48pm
You lose your undercover status if you get too close to dogs, roadblocks and outposts/bases or if you stray away from roads within sight of unfriendlies (civilians included). Of course, the latter only applies to being undercover in a car -- on foot, you can walk cross-country as much as you like.

Additionally, being close to mortar impacts also blows your cover, so that you cannot just stand there and provide shellreps for your mates.

With regards to regular towns, foot patrols with dogs are your primary threat. Patrols without dogs, even military convoys (AAF attack, supply convoys, etc) do not mind your presence. Yes, you can literally drive between Moras if you so desire.

Gaining undercover status is a bit more tricky, as you have to be far enough away from unfriendlies, irrespective of lines of sight.

Yes, I found 20 secs to read the last lines :)

As missions are totally dynamic, I cannot say 100% which of them are easy or not. Generally speaking the Refugees and City Supply are the easiest, but, regugees may spawn in a bad place, city centre can be crowded of enemies, QRF can be really quick...

also, it wont take long to get enough nato points for an ammo drop. . . get one :) there's a good chance you'll get a good gun, a decent scope and enough ammo to clear a good number of points of interest. By that point you'll have a launcher and enough rockets to have some fun when a convoy mission appears. Just hope for only 2 APCs, approach when they're in the destination town and try and cap one :) it'll have supplies inside as a bonus :)

Thanks for the help guys. I've made a lot of progress with some friends and have been unlocking some good stuff. My next goal is to unlock some form of anti-tank mines. Does anyone know a good source to farm for them? I have 3 Slams and 1 AT mine but I have no idea where we got them.
Scopuli Jun 2, 2016 @ 12:42pm
Troops do not carry mines, and I don't think the default cargo of any APC/IFV includes mines either. So that leaves you with ammo boxes.

If memory serves correctly however, the gear spawning inside the ammo box is picked at random from arrays of possible gear, with the exclusion of already unlocked equipment. Which means you're out of luck. Maybe you'll find some, maybe you won't.

Now that I think about it, I don't actually know if CSAT's air-deployed minefields also come in an AT version. I know the APERS version, but I cannot remember if I've ever seen them drop AT/Slam. If they do, you could send those engineers over there to mine the minefield, if you pardon the pun.

Good hunting anyways...

Here's a tip that probably hasn't been mentioned: Starting your base off in the North-East (mountainous) part of Altis is very very very good for making escapes and such. You have to mind your vehicles a LOT and can't let breakdowns happen (or at least have an engineer), but the bonus is when stealing an ammotruck you can simply drive off into the forest until you're far enough away from enemies to simply Fast Travel back to base. Plus, in the far northeast things are set up so that all the QRFs come from airports and are thus transport helicopters, which is easier to spot than an APC sneaking up and giving you the business or a transport truck unloading soldiers somewhere you can't see.
Also, unlock NV goggles as quickly as you can, along with collecting Mk20s. Then rest 'til night-time, and you'll have leveled the playing field a lot as you can sneak up on AAF way more easily then.

First of all, great mission! Absolutely love it! I don't mind the difficulty, however I found myself getting rekt by this "Defend Petros" mission. Does this mission only appear when you fail to neutralize the assassination target, or are there other things that can trigger this mission?
