How to win a defensive task (NATO presence)
NATO decided to take back some of my bases and declared attacks against three of them. The task is "NATO presence". I sent there reinforcements and travelled there to defend it myself too. The battle lasted for more than three hours, i died several times, shot down around 20 helicopters and other planes and a lot of soldiers from both sides were killed. Still, the attack did not stop. NATO was sending waves of choppers plus soldiers periodically. It ended by me restarting mission after one death and loading persistent save. How is it possible to win those defensive scenarios? I just do not have time to play it for so long.

Possibly a bug, I have seen this type of thing before with csat. I am unaware of a solution.

From the experience I have had, along with contact with the main developer it seems this is by design - sometimes the enemy will do whatever it takes to take back a point. The intention is to give you the experience of a fluid front line, such that you cannot build an impenetrable wall and must adapt as places occasionally fall. This shouldn't be often however, although seems to be more common for key locations such as airfields.

Only way i was able to stop constant attacks is my securing the enemy airfield, so going to have to deal with it. What i did was i made a AA network across all my outposts and cities, so the enemy will have barely any air forces when they arrive to the base. Also, try to give outposts machine guns too, as i have rarely seen NATO send a ground convoy, so its usually Warthogs giving fire support, and then the Hurons/Ghost hawks dropping troops.

Problem is that AA have fixed arcs and its really difficult and painfull to create good AA network. Now, my session of antistasi always start with NATO attack and then NATO presence. I need to travel to the site asap with tons of portable AA missiles and send a tons of troops there too. But it still does not matter. I can have around 50-70 troops guarding the site and almost all of them are dead when I arrive. Then it is non stop attacks with choppers and support planes. I just cannot advance in any direction, capture more bases or anything. All of my efforts needs to be concentrated to defend. This is really becoming pointless and I am considering to stop playing it, as there is just no possibility to do anything.

True, and while i do understand that rebellions dont have advanced weapons, i wish there was a option to like purchase AA vehicles from the black market, kinda like how North Korea sells weapons in the black market to dictatorships.

You could buy AA trucks each session? Bit of an effort but the things are effective

I can buy AA truck, but I have never seen them doing any good.

The enemy has to "buy" troops too, if left unattended for too long he will crush you with great forces. Only solution to this is to disrupt logistics before taking any spots. You are a rebellion on a island with about 100k Civs and think you can really standup against NATO and CSAT/OPFOR? Look at afghanistan or libya, they burned both to the ground.

If you want to argument from this point of view, then in my opinion this insurrection would be finished in a matter of days without any hope. The game would be about sending guys in civilian clothes as human bombs against outposts and patrols. And my only activity would be undercover missions with fast retreats. I would be doing this for a couple of years, hoping that NATO will decide to abandon this piece of rock because of public opinion. But, if you did not realise, I am playing a game and to play it, I want to see some progress :)

The vanilla AA trucks and static AA are useless due to the limited aiming arc. It's like BIS intentionally nerfed them to make flyboys happy.
RHS stuff is a lot better with the Zu-23-2 static and truck.
The only way I have found to limit enemy air in vanilla is to equip my squad with Titan AA missiles and drop them off at various strategic hilltops. This limits my use of fast travel, but they are pretty effective at knocking down enemy air.

From mine and my friends' experience, NATO/OPFOR counter attacks are just ridiculous. We play with RHS and I'll provide some examples:

1. A US attack on an outpost we held sent 2-3 Bradleys, an F-22, several waves of infantry, and a couple helis, a mix of Apaches, Chinooks, and Littlebirds. We had around 50 soldiers garrisoned with decent training along with 3 anti air pieces. The US pretty much steamrolled the outpost with no opposition. My friend and I destroyed the remaining US presence and retook the outpost shortly after. This is probably the most reasonable attack we have experienced.

2. The Russians decided to attack a radio tower we held. They sent an initial wave with a couple Mi-8s, they all got shot down by our 3 anti-air pieces. The Russians decided to continue sending helicopters for another 20 minutes, at the same place. We shot down well over 20 helicopters before they stopped. In fact, we shot down more Ka-60s in one attack than have currently been built.

3. Just this night, the US attacked our radio tower on top of a huge hill. They sent atleast 5 Bradleys, 2 M113s, 5 F-22s, 3 Chinooks, 3 Blackhawks, 4 Littlebirds, and an Apache over the coourse of around 2 hours. We shot down all the troop transport helicopters early on, before the Apache later destroyed our anti-aircraft guns. We had to deal with a ludicrous amount of assets to defend against, and frankly there was just no way to win. We lost all 50 people garrisoned and the outpost.

Atleast 50% of the attacks that come your way are pretty much impossible to defend against. As soon as they break out a significant amount of armor, you are screwed because friendly AI don't use AT properly. At most, they might get lucky and eliminate 1 or 2 vehicles. Apaches are unstoppable killing machines if you don't get an AA missile on them early. All your friendly AI bunch up in the center of the outpost and one gun run will kill 75% of your defenses. I guess the intended design for these attacks is just to bend over and take it because they are pretty unreasonable usually. This is all compounded by the fact that when you put that many AI in one area pretty much an PC is put to the limit, and you are trying to fight at below 30fps. I don't have any experience on whether or not these attacks are better with just vanilla Arma 3.
