Arma 3
A3 - Antistasi Altis

Some questions about Antistasi.
So I've been playing this for a while now and I've had to restart a couple of times because Petros got killed.

I have been wondering how the F am I gonna get IFVs / Tanks, they constantly send some my way, because I captured an outpost or something. I've managed to get the weapons disabled but every. Single. Time. I try to disable the tracks the thing won't disable or it will just blow up. I use ACE and RHS, I've been testing my AT weaponry against similar vehicles using ZEUS in the virtual reality scenario and when ever I shoot tracks there the vehicles disable and the crew gets out with one rocket / mine. Is there a different way I should try to get these vehicles in Antistasi?

I'm getting a little tired of them sending tanks and APCs against me while I already took out like five reinforcement waves.

Another thing I want to know is how far away should my HQ be from ANYTHING. I've currently captured some of the zone up in the north west part of Altis. I am currently in a castle called "Thronos", it has walls and a minefield as protection so I though "Hey, why not. It's better than this shack on the shore". There's an outpost to east from here that I have yet to capture and I tried but they always send a tank and there was a POW rescue mission that failed. They also recaptured the outpost and after those things I got the "Defend Petros" mission. Why? I didn't fail an assasination attempt? I did send the two POWs I managed to rescue back to base but they got gunned down by a sneaky little USAF squad...

Am I playing this wrong by trying to capture radio towers / outposts so early on? I have decent weapons like the M16A4s and M14 EBR-RIs, they mostly one shot the enemies. Should I not be using these mods, maybe they make it too hard? It's mostly one or two shots and I get knocked unconscious and most of the time... die.

Also how am I supposed to protect captured outposts if the garissons I send there will despawn everytime I reload the save? Aren't the outposts supposed to spawn friendlies automatically?

AI will remain in their vehicles as long as they can fire

The Defend Petros can be because you fired a mortar near HQ?

You are doing well capturing as long as you can hold territory or at least make some damage to the enemy

The garrisons will spawn when enemies or you are near

I had a mortar squad maybe like 200m away from my base but I never actually used it, I don't want to use it for unnessecary things anymore, because they seem to get carpet bombed when ever I use them a few times in a row.

Also I've never seen friendly AI spawn in captured outposts, even when enemies would attack it. Could ACE or RHS be causing this? I'm considering disabling ACE completely, maybe adding these mods makes it too hard for me, I've only been playing ArmA for a while.

I think RHS only adds new units, weapons, vehicles and such not actual mechanics like ACE (Medical, Logistics, etc.) I don't mind starting over again if it means everything will work as intended.

Anyway, thanks for the response I appreciate all the help I can get!

PS: I know I asked this before but will there be a better building system at some point? I'd LOVE to see one, that would add so much to this mission. Cheers!

RHS and ACE shouldnt cause any issue as long as you continue your game using them, that may be the cause (the garrison is filled with RHS classnames and then you continue on vanilla, no classname will be found)

There is a basic trench and defense construction feature.

Yeah, but that doesn't offer very much and it's way too slow to use in the middle of combat. Besides the trnches won't save and the bunkers move a little bit forward everytime you reload the save. By building I mean stuff that would actually save and stay there without moving. There's a mod called "DP Build Everything Arma" or something, I think a support for that would be awesome, because then you could fortify your bases, so when you get attacked it won't be as easy as to just drive in with a tank and destroy everything.

Also since we're here, do you know anything about the loot / vehicle / unit deletion on death. It's really ruining my experience, just loaded 4 trucks full of loot and ONE enemy who somehow survived a grenade to the face shot me and I lost literally everything. All the vehicles all the loot, everything. One of the main ways to get new weaponry is to steal those weapon crates from outposts and well they get deleted too, if I die anywhere near them. So I can't exactly get new weapons any other way than just scavenging what I can from two man patrols.

Vehicles do despawn rather quickly when left alone. You can work around this by keeping a live player or AI somewhere nearby, which also prevents the enemy garrisons respawning. When playing SP, I usually bring a militiaman and hide him within 500m of the target in stealth mode. Sometimes need to give them a stop order immediately after respawning to keep them in the vicinity. Nearby HC groups may also work, but I'm not sure about that.

Loot dumped on the ground seems to last much longer than vehicles, and player corpses last a very long time, so do remember where you died with rare gear. Returning ammoboxes safely is something that you have to plan for: Ideally load them onto a civilian vehicle in a safe area and return undercover, but sometimes the cross-country truck dash is the best option.

I think the difficulty curve is smoother if you stick to capping resources and village missions in the early game, blowing up the radio stations rather than capping them. Once you've flipped nearby villages, it's a lot easier to take outposts and factories without getting stabbed in the back by random patrols.

Good advice! I'll start by planning my attacks more carefully and always have at least one guy hidden nearby, so I won't love everything, in case I die.

But what is the best way to get armored vehicles? I've disabled ACE and RHS for now and started fresh so I'm not sure if you can disable a vanilla tank with a vanilla AT weapon the same way as in RHS, by just shooting at the tracks?

Anyway, thanks for the tips and sorry if I'm asking too many questions, I just want to know as much as possible and some things are either vague or not mentioned in the Antistasi manual.

I play vanilla, but I haven't had much success shooting at tracks. You can kill the M2A1s with a two AT shots directly in the rear access panel (not as hard as it sounds, because the AI is pretty daft). You can also disable and capture them with proper guerrilla tactics:

1. Hide and wait until tank stops somewhere daft. Happens a lot. Be patient.
2. Crawl up behind it with a couple of large IEDs. Place right next to rear or side.
3. Tank should now be disabled but still have crew in it. Place and detonate small IEDs one at a time until crew bail or can be extracted (check available actions after each).
4. Tow tank to a flag with HEMTT and garage it, or repair with engineer and refuel.

Also scratch the radio tower destruction suggestion. Turns out that you have to blow up a repair truck every hour so it's not a workable tactic without a full server of players.

Won't the large IEDs go off if I place them right next to the tank? Or do I have a remote detonator? Been playing too much with ACE so I can't remember ♥♥♥♥ about the vanilla game :P

Thanks again for all the advice!

The IEDs work just like explosive charges and satchels in vanilla. You get two choices in the action menu: Setting a timer, or remote detonation ("touch off bomb(s)"). Remote detonation works within a kilometer or so and needs no additional equipment.
