Try it yourself by putting 4 AA tanks near a attack destination and watch from where the attack is coming from, as soon as the helo's are destroyed another 5 will spawn straight away. The only way to play is don't garrison outposts and just retake them as soon as the enemy captures them. I Gave up when I saw all this as whats the point in capturing a outpost if its impossible to defend it with AI? The enemy also never garrisons a outpost after capturing it back, you get 5 or so men so it just becomes a game where you don't defend anything and just recapture a base after its taken back by the enemy.
I believe this is why barbaloni hasn't been heard from in months, he knows he has broke the mode and either cant be bothered or doesn't know how to fix everything that was broken when he updated it last. To check all this just use the simple single player cheat mod and you will see how bad the attacks are and you will never stop a attack simply because the enemy just keeps spawning more and more AI to capture the attack destination.
Ahahah. Its ok I can feel the frustration on this end of the computer. Sooo...take a big big breath and exhale. For context, I often play this solo and still can make significant in territory capture.
I think people's biggest frustration is the sense of lack of progress. From what you described, I can see why you are frustrated. So here are some of my pointers. You need to change you expectation on the timeframe. I usually operate in a region and have to capture/recapture outpost/resources 10+ times. Whats happening is that you need to cause significant attrition of enemy forces over period of time. We are talking 10-20 hr stretches in a region were the tempo of your operation is causing sizeable loss of enemy garrison. This can be judged based on the enemy garrison size of the surrounding spots. They drain their resource garrison first. If the garrison on your map report as weakened all over the place, then you know they are scraping the bottom of the manpool. As you cause more and more troop loss and vehicle losses. The scale and speed of the AI response will diminish with time.
Enemy attacks (not the QRF counterattack) 9/10 times are very very difficult to defeat given the way it is structured. As much hardening as you think you can achieve it is unlikely to fend off full force attacks at your stage. On the official public, the 20-30 population may be able to fend them off with ample support. On my solo campaign, I usually have to recapture a single spot until they stop responding for the next hour or two. Holding on to territory as solo is more tricky, I need to cause attrition faster then their rebuilding. With RHS on, I usually deploy 10 static HMG and 4-5 ZU guns manned by militia garrison to fend off the airpower a bit. Because the attacks randomly select the number of waves...you can be in a fight fending off 10+ waves of apache/venom and troop transports.
I'd recommend you not to be as attached to captured territory. You will be fighting over the same ground many times over. once you get the war level higher, you can exploit situations where you can attack enemy outpost right after the other AI finish capturing it and remains in a weakened state. Stay mobile, keep destroying enemy assets. Don't slow down and attempt at static defenses until the late campaign stage.
The mod is not broken in this sense. I think the intent of the game design is not matching player expectation and frustrating people. Again. I remind you that I play this often solo and encounter the same scale of attacks. If I can make progress, you can too.
P.S. you guys are not idiots....just be prepared to retreat and try again. Don't give up.
I looked what was going on and whenever a side decides to attack they will just keep spawning in more troops when the AI are wiped out. I used zeus to watch a attack and put AA tanks around the bases just to see if I could actually stop a attack. I could but only after about a hour of cheating the game using zeus. I played the earlier versions and it was doable just to hold outposts but now it seems impossible when you reach war level 7 or above.
The AI would reinforce outposts that had become weekend before if you had weekend them over time but now that mission doesn't exist. You can loose a outpost, wait forever and it will 90% of the time only have 5 men defending it after its been captured once. Its still a fun game mode but after spending 2 weeks gathering HR and cash to max my AI skill when nothing I did could stop a attack in the later game I just gave up in the hope barbolani would update it or hopefully go back to a earlier version.
