Technical Issues Thread
This mod is perfect and there is no way in hell anyone is going to be having any problems.

But just in case...

General Tips

Check the page address in the browser
Game updates forced an URL change. Old bookmarks are broken.
  • "Game Options" > "Mods" > click the "Copy dashboard URL" button.
  • I suggest the button because the URL got super long on 42.20 and it's easy to miss some of it. If the end gets cut off, the page can load without receiving game data.

Also make sure you're up to date:
  • If you go into the game menu > mods > PZ_Pulse you should see v0.3.3+.
  • If you're out of date make sure you don't have any odd startup options like -nosteam as that can prevent updates.
  • If you're out of date restart the game and/or Steam.
  • If you're STILL out of date you may be able to force things by unsubscribing and resubscribing.

Multiplayer / Hosted games:
  • The server dictates the client mod list.
  • This is true even though this mod is 100% client-side.
  • Dedicated server: admin adds the mod ID to "Mods=" and the Workshop ID to "WorkshopItems=" in the server .ini (or the in-game server-options panel), then restarts.
  • Hosted: enable it in "Host" > "Manage settings..." > "Create/Edit Selected Settings" > "Choose Mods" > ACCEPT > NEXT > in this "EDIT SETTINGS:" window go to "Steam Workshop" and "Add an installed Workshop item to the list" > choose this mod > SAVE).
  • Each player can choose whether to actually run it.

Performance issues
  • On the dashboard hit shift-z to bring up a support dump.
  • Click "Copy"
  • Hit "Start a New Discussion" to make a fresh thread here with a description of the problem and paste the log at the end of it.

Linux Browsers - "access to the file was denied"
  • This is likely a sandboxed browser install (Flatpak or Snap).
  • FYI Steam Deck / SteamOS use Flatpak by default.
  • Browsers installed with apt work fine.
  • Click here for some workarounds

Hit "Start a New Discussion" for new issues
I'm starting to think this might get too unwieldy for one thread.
I'll answer stuff in here too but may have to delete stuff after a while.
Having some issues in Arch with Chrome, mod reporting the url is file:/S:/workshop/content/108600/3753700423/mods/PZ_Pulse/42/media/web/index.html?d=file:/C:/users/steamuser/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Pulse/ but I get nothing (I imagine it has something to do with Proton?), I can go to the index file but it's giving no heartbeat. Thanks in advance for any help!

edit: @billyslapzzz

Fire up the terminal and if you're browser shows up in either of these lists then that explains everything.

flatpak list
snap list

I've added some tips on this on the mother post.
Safer LibreWolf Flatpak permission setup:

flatpak override --user --filesystem="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/108600/3770149036" --filesystem="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/108600/3753700423" --filesystem="$HOME/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Map" --filesystem="$HOME/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Pulse" io.gitlab.librewolf-community

Then fully restart LibreWolf:

flatpak kill io.gitlab.librewolf-community

This is safer than granting LibreWolf access to your entire home directory. It only grants access to the PZ Map and PZ Pulse Workshop and data folders. I also installed librewolf browser as its only purpose will be to use this mod. This command is obviously for both PZ Pulse/Map (querto) <3 Awsome mod, keep it up!!
Thanks! I'm going to update the instructions.
First, just wanted to say thanks for the quick response!

So I checked and none of my browsers are flatpak or snaps but I finally figured it out

The mods path (in the menu) is incorrect (presumably) due to proton stuff, it looks like this

file:/S:/workshop/content/108600/3753700423/mods/PZ_Pulse/42/media/web/index.html?d=file:/C:/users/steamuser/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Pulse

(should be 3 / in the file area, steam seems to be cutting that in the post)

basically the path needs to look like

file:/home/user/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/108600/3753700423/mods/PZ_Pulse/42/media/web/index.html?d=file:/home/user/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/108600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Pulse

I think maybe if you're using the Linux native build it may output correctly but for those like me using proton, this is the issue.
Thanks for that mod. I have a mac. When i open the page in chrome it say no haerthbeat detected waiting for PZ. But i playing.
Can you paste me the exact URL it gives you? I'm curious what this looks like on a Mac. If your name is on the path or something you can just replace it with some random letters I just want to see the shape of it.
I am also having some major issues getting this mod to work, I've attempted the fixes posted here, the Linux browser thread and a few other methods and the most I got was opening the index.html file in my browser which gets me to the page but I can't get any further than the "No Heartbeat Detected" part. I'm unsure of what the issue is since I've gotten mixed results with various bits of tinkering. I'm on Linux Mint and I've tried using Opera, Firefox (2 different versions of it from Software Manager) and Librewolf.
Since it sounds like you can get into the page I have a troubleshooting trick I invented for v0.3.3. Hit shift-z in the webpage (or as long as it's upper case it works). Copy that support dump and paste it here. If you somehow can't get a support dump then you're on an older version and need to update.

FYI check those URLs in the support dump before you paste. You might want to xxxx over your username and whatnot if it's something you don't want to paste out here.
This is what I ended up getting out of it.

Your URL is missing the ?d= part. The dashboard page ships inside the mod, but the live data files are written elsewhere (~/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Pulse/), so the address has to carry that location. Opening index.html by hand loses it, and the page then sits at "No Heartbeat Detected" forever.

If you're in-game get the full proper address from Options / MODS / PZ_Pulse and I'd suggest just hitting the copy button because it's long and easy to miss something.

Also it looks like you might be sandboxed but maybe you already worked around that. If you still have issues then there's a whole other page for that. here

Let me know how it goes.
That was the first thing I did was figure out the "sandboxxing" issue and unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. The normal URL inside of the options was where my issues started, I attempted to use the console and Flatseal to give access to the proper file path but that also didn't work, I tested this with all 3 browsers.

Did you see my comment? I believe after the ?= part you need to point to the compat data that proton uses (if you are on proton that is) which should look like

?d=file:/home/user/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/108600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Zomboid/Lua/PZ_Pulse
Can you paste me the exact URL from Options / Mods / PZ Pulse . Just hit the copy button and paste it here. protect your username as before - I only need the shape of it, specifically how many slashes are right after file:.

If this is an actual bug that needs fixing maybe I can just tell you the URL to use and do a proper fix to the mod itself.

edit. hey thanks I already forgot about that variable too, ha.
