Unofficial Calamity Bard & Healer

Balance discussions
Here shall be discussed the eventual problematic balance of this mod items.

Keep in mind this post goal isn't to fix every already broken item: this should be mostly reported on Thorium or mods like Ragnarok which aims to smoothen global Thorium/Cal experience.

Focus on this specific mod classes and additions; point which of them are either breaking the game or simply disrespect progression.

Vanilla Thorium has a problem with overpowered weapons if anything. Weapons like Magic Conch, Viscount's Cane and Valkyrie's Blade among others were majorly nerfed in the recent update because they were blatantly overpowered even relative to Calamity weapons. And even now you have very strong if not overpowered weapons like Twin's Ire, Arsenal Staff, Terra Knife, (blatantly broken) Sound Sage's Lament and more.

Also, which earlygame vanilla Thorium armor sets are overpowered?
doot_revenant666 Feb 10, 2024 @ 6:44am
@Shyguymask , they are talking about Healer , so it doesn't include any of the weapons you have mentioned

Ah, I misread then. I thought when they brought up Healer they were making a comment about Pre-hardmode Healer being overpowered or underpowered or something else I didn't understand.
GlobalWyrm Feb 10, 2024 @ 12:47pm
reposting my main page comment here, post yharon healer HEAVILY outperforms all other classes. my dps testing was with each respective sets auric tesla set with the right helmet, the best weapon reforge, the universal, calamity, and Thorium combinations from alchemistnpc lite, and their main Post DoG accessory. Healer got ~100k dps, while the closest to it (rogue) only dealt ~60k dps.
GlobalWyrm Feb 10, 2024 @ 1:35pm
reality slasher nearly instakills Thanatos and Ares from the exomechs, nearly 150k dps on a pre yharon weapon

@GlobalWyrm, Reality Slasher as a whole is terribly broken. ThorRework doesn't even buff it that much, mostly changes the visuals and stats. Even without it, it is that strong. Will eventually make another balance change to effectively equalize the progression of healer. Also, adding a specific nerf for some reality breaker weapons against certain bosses, (like how both mods do it, since Dragon's Rage can easily clap Exo-Mechs if it wasn't for the fact that it is coded to deal 75% less damage against them) it is the only way i can think of as others would cause major domino effects.

Entered early hardmode recently with healer recently.
Here we go:

ARMOR :
- I confirm my first impressions of Thorium healer armor giving dramatically overpowered bonuses, if we except defense.

While this mod helmet/set bonuses have balanced bonuses compared to other vanilla/calamity classes gear, a vanilla Thorium healer set have access to much higher dmg/healing bonuses (Irirdescent reaching up to a whopping 38% against statigel measly 1x%) for the cost of virtually almost no damage loss (You'd never use any other class except summons for extra damage, only utility/debuffs so the non-radiant damage penalty is basically nonsense to justify higher boosts).

Daedalus armor continues the tradition of giving weaker bonuses than lower tier thorium options, if we except the extra defense.
BUG: Daedalus set bonus healing machine cooldown can be refreshed by simply resummoning the machine. I'd suggest applying the same cooldown to the machine summon to avoid this.

WEAPONS :

I don't have access to most weapons yet, so i'll go for the most critical issues i'm noticing currently.

-Scythes :
--Even hardmode scythes are looking critically weak compared to Duality, and there's literally no point in crafting any pre-mechanical boss scythes.

-Spells :

-- Omen :
Why would I use this? Duality have better damage, range, hit boxes, and no costs. It's only advantage is the very minor healing it can bring to an ally, otherwise it's just garbage.

-- Blood Transfusion:
Even in Vanilla, its self-healing is insane against predictable enemies - def needs a nerf of any kind. But with adrenaline healling buffs ? Basically a full heal against some bosses.
I'd suggest raising mana cost (less uses = less heal) or lowering the healing returns ( for example, take 50% or less of healing bonuses instead of current 100%)

I should do a run of Bard to be the counterpart to your run then
N0t_UNowen  [developer] Feb 16, 2024 @ 5:52am
Alright, v0.5 has been released, solely to help rebalance healer as a whole and endgame bard to be more in line with Thorium's progression.
Gar'Rock Feb 18, 2024 @ 3:29am
Okay, healer progression feels a lot smoother now, thanks for your hard work!
Can't wait to try a fresh run with bard as well ~~
wulfrum megaphone is obscenely powerful, atleast compared to other wulfrum weapons. other wulfrum weapons can take you comfortably through EOC at the most, but the wulfrum megaphone shreds BOC/EOW, and still works pretty decently a bit past that point. maybe just lower its pierce and increase inspiration costs?
N0t_UNowen  [developer] Mar 1, 2024 @ 4:32am
@bagel, it has now been readjusted. Costs 2 inspiration now and the pierce damage diminishes by a flat amount to not kill its intended purpose whilst making it not too viable for BoC/EoW.

yo ive been doin a infernum + thorium boss reworks solo healer run with this for funsies, here's what i have to say based on my now kinda vague memories. no idea if it's supposed to be balanced with infernum as well, but here are my not particularly well sorted thoughts! (up to DoG as i type this btw)

- (thorium) recuperate is just insane????? like,, with a lot of the thorium healer sets giving insane mana regen this thing is essentially just a get out of jail free card forever. you get hit? just stop getting hit for a bit and heal up. prob needs a cap on its powers

- (b/h expansion) the primordial trio weapons (btw cool theming on those !!!) are very solid! used them throughout the game, i dont remember if any of them were op aside from slag fury's intent piercing destroyer really hard and dealing a bunch of damage at the first phase and also hurting cryogen at a slightly above reasonable pace

- (thorium) of course theres thorium's issue of op weaponry at this point of the game. terrarium holy scythe absolutely shreds moon lord and presumably a lot of the bosses after too (i banned it after witnessing its power,,,, ik i still used recuperate but i wanna at least participate in a fight, yknow?). and, as previously discussed, reality slasher is just absurd and desperately needs to be nerfed

- (b/h expansion) however! there are some op ones on your side of the field as well! blooming saintess' devotion absolutely shreds polterghast (if they stand still) and DoG, i saw polty's health go from like 90% to 35% in 7-ish seconds (very very rough estimate)

- (i gues just in general?? idk) i think the longest time i had spent on bosses were the two corruption bosses. i didnt really have much in terms of dps at eater of worlds and hive mind, though this may be a Awareness Of Weapons Issue. shortest was desert scourge because of the funny needle that kills him and only him instantly

- (calamity's reworked mechs progression) dude the reworked mechs progression pretty much just screwed over so many thorium items that existed assuming that wasnt a thing. wild.

- (b/h armor) one thing i explicitly remember is not using the hydrothermic set because the one thing it was better at whispering in was bonus healing. still the case rn which makes me sad cause new cool stuff is new and cool. daedalus set spawning an ice cream machine is funny though but i dont think i got around to using it ever either because i needed titanium to achieve it and at that point i could get life binder. bit of an armor issue imo. good job on buffing aerospec though i didnt use it at first until it got buffed!

- (b/h armor again) also when i got the bloodflare set i ended up just putting on the bloodflare rit. mask over the celestial set bcuz both the set bonuses were eh, and i liked the celestial sets mana regen and the bloodflare rit. mask gave a ton of bonus healing (probs cuz the rest of the set gives none,,, although its still not more than a full celestial set). probably lock some of it behind the set bonus and boost it up at least a bit, so that there's more of a choice, unless mixed sets are your thing in which case i respect that

- (b/h scythes) i will say,the tidal force was a really solid, fairly balanced weapon for both duke fishron and PGB!

- (thorium issue) ok i just found out about unbound fantasy! uh oh! that's a bit much i think! idk i just found out about its existence i'll have to see

thats all i can think to put here, really. i hope to see this mod really flourish and grow, and i hope that my scattered very unprofessional thoughts help in some way ! :3

S.A.R.S need immediate nerf. It''s dps is around twice as strong as the terrarium scythe, with defense piercing and 4 soul essence ( which is double the terrarium scythe you can craft a bit later), with a pretty strong debuff on top of that. This weapon is so absurdly overpowered, it felt like it was intended as a post-ML craft, yet, it's only a loot from Goliath.
g Mar 5, 2024 @ 5:57pm
i can't attest much as in my playthrough i didn't use it aside from testing it on duke fishron (he did not survive very long), but yeah ! thinkin about it it does in fact need a nerf !
