Personally i had not had issues reaching them. There was one where the game thought i was trying to open the box in front (hitboxes not matching visuals), but other than that, just crouch, move around slowly, and remember that if you even see one pixel and your crosshair goes yellow, you can flip that switch. Don't have to be looking at the red switch itself. Any point on the device will work.
