Tree Changes from Vanilla
All tree products are now growths, there are no tree seeds with this mod. This change was made for several reasons:
  • Vanilla tree seeds cannot be planted to grow new trees
  • While marked as edible, citizens would never eat tree seeds
  • Seeds are stored in bags, taking up a new bag (often more) for every type of seed
  • Seeds do not stack, and often caused lots of job cancellation spam if a reaction requests more than one
  • Tree seeds added as growths don't work correctly with embark loadouts or trading, causing many issues

Some tree growth patterns were changed to mimic domestication and orchard pruning practices. Slightly fuller fruit trees without split trunks, but shorter. Bananas grow a single branch from the trunk (similar to how the peduncle grows). Date trees grow three branches from the top of the trunk (similar to how spikes grow on these trees). The value of banana and date fruits are increased because of the lower yields of these trees. Bananas appear in trade now; they may have before, but I never encountered them in dozens of games.

Banana beer was renamed to banana wine, as banana beer was historically only a ceremonial drink, and it was made by combining the fruits of two species of banana. The species of banana in the game is not one of those species. Banana wine, however, was and is a widely produced drink from the species of banana specified in the vanilla game files.

New drinks have been added:
  • Cocoa drink - made from cocoa beans, which are roasted from cocoa pods at a farmer's workshop
  • Coffee - made from coffee beans, which are roasted from coffee cherries at a farmer's workshop
  • Tea - made from tea leaves, which can be gathered from tea trees in the late spring and early summer. Requires stepladder and tree gathering zone.

Flour and plant milks can be made from the following tree growths:
  • Acacia pods
  • Almonds
  • Cacao pods - used to make cocoa powder for cooking
  • Cashews - obtained from cashew fruits at a farmer's workshop
  • Chestnuts
  • Coconuts
  • Hazelnuts
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Oak acorns
  • Pecans
  • Walnuts

Oil can be made by milling and then pressing these tree growths:
  • Almonds
  • Avocados
  • Cashews
  • Hazelnuts
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Olives
  • Pecans
  • Tea tree capsules
  • Walnuts

Dates can now have syrup extracted from them at a farmer's workshop for cooking. Date sugar can be milled from dates.

Fixed feather trees being liquid and ending up spilling all over the trade depot when brought by merchants.

Wood values have been increased for the following trees:
  • Ash - 2
  • Blood thorn - 3
  • Cedar - 2
  • Cherry - 2
  • Chestnut - 3
  • Glumprong - 2
  • Goblin-cap - 2
  • Mahogany - 3
  • Maple - 2
  • Nether-cap - 3
  • Oak - 2
  • Spore tree - 2
  • Tunnel tube - 2
  • Walnut - 2

Birch wood now has an appearance closer to its real-world color.

NEW IN 2.0
Added tree tapping for sap. This is really just growths that grow on the trunks called sap buckets (does not actually require buckets to harvest). These "sap buckets" can be brewed into drinks, or extracted into syrup. Syrup can further be crystallized into sugar. This is available for birch, maple, coconut palm, and date palm.

Added dyes from certain tree materials.
  • Acacia dye (ochre) from milling wood
  • Bayberry dye (fern green) from milling leaves
  • Chestnut dye (pale chestnut) from milling chestnuts
  • Maple dye (lilac) from milling wood
  • Pecan dye (lemon) from milling pecans
  • Pomegranate dye (amber) from milling pomegranates
  • Tea dye (goldenrod) from milling tea leaves
  • Walnut dye (auburn) from milling walnuts
  • Willow dye (buff) from milling willow leaves
