So why does that mean no other modder can? I have no side on this seemingly heated debate that's gone on for months, but this argument just makes no sense.

It's one thing to charge money on small mods that don't do much, another to put it behind a scummy practice that forces you to rebuy due to the nature of how their platform works (I'm looking at PureDark here). But neither of these are true.
