Debugging FPS drop?
Heya, me again. I'll keep this as short as possible.

When this modpack had it's recent CTD issue with missing mods, I temporarily installed this other modpack instead - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3331814387 - And used it for several days; 10+ hours of play time in-game, with nearly 500 mods. Had 0 problems, even after several hour long sessions, so I assume that means my system is decent enough for modded Kenshi. I also played a decent amount of vanilla without issues.

But I really wanted to try some of UWE's features, and some of the mods in that other modpack, weren't as "lore friendly" as advertised lol. So yesterday, I tried installing Lore Friendly Role-Playing Experience v1.9.7.2.1 again, and it worked. And I got the same FPS as the other modpack roughly (with some longer/more frequent load times). I assumed everything was fine, and played a couple hours off and on, mostly hanging around the HUB and taking in all it's additions. (Kinda crazy how much is changed - it's a fortress now!)

But fast forward to today, I loaded up my save, only played about 10 minutes, recruited a random NPC bonedog wandering around the HUB (probably unrelated, but will try kicking it from party if anyone thinks it could be related), couple minutes passed, and suddenly out of nowhere my FPS tanked. Like, dropped from 55'ish to 15, with noticeable stuttering. If I alt tabbed, my mouse cursor would lag outside of the game too. System monitor showed kenshi as using 6GB memory and 10% CPU, so I assume I must be having a GPU issue (or maybe maxed out a single CPU core?), or.. maybe a mod in this modpack, was erroring out without crashing? I've also heard kenshi can have problems with maxing out vram or something?

I'm not new to debugging mods in general, but I am completely new to Kenshi. I tried to see if anything obvious was in kenshi.log or kenshi_info.log, but besides some one time errors, I'm not sure what could cause this. How do I go about figuring out what is causing this, and ultimately fixing it? I'm using all the performance tweaks minus the nvidia optimization (AMD GPU), I didn't add any of the non-workshop shader/lighting mods, and I removed Native Stylize. I also imported my save, and added a few smaller mods (like recruits/weapons) that I didn't think had a chance of conflicting too much, but ya never know.

I know asking for this kind of help, is probably a big ask for someone to take the time. But this seems like a really great modpack, and I'd love to figure out how to get it running again. Thanks for any advice you can give this noob.

Edit: Whoops, I might have spoke too soon. I discovered I accidentally didn't disable CATO from my previous modlist, and it's apparently not compatible with UWE (and I didn't see a compatibility patch). It was partially responsible for the Hub looking so fortified.. I think it might have been overlaying extra structures and walls. And it "might" have been what caused my sudden lag. NPC AI might have started freaking out, not knowing what to do with the overlaid structures. Removed CATO and imported my save, and the lag has gone away, at least for now.

Ah okay glad you discovered what is causing the random FPS drops.

Yeah anything that modifies the cities can potentially cause issues, particularly with a mod list like this. You'd need to have probably multiple patches to ensure the cities aren't overlapping and such, as well as the various NPC additions that a city mod might entail. Kind of what you said with the NPCs and trying to figure out their jobs and *how* to route their path, if that makes sense.

I do have a few performance related mods on the list which helps most people, but various things like disabling "Distant Towns" in the graphics menu can help (as well as help prevent random CTDs, which is seemingly random based on computer specs since it works fine for me).

The game is very old, and somewhat unoptimized (particularly with mods) due to the engine and how it works, so even with modern hardware you can't really bump up the View Distance even on a 3080+ GPU lol, especially with mods.
