No Diplomacy Without Emissaries and Relations - announced update ver 0.15
on saturday 17.6.2023 i'll release the new version of noDiplomacy mod.
features:
1) a new diplomatic condition ("Partially Enabled Diplomacy") for the factions in 2 or 3 regions from the owned faction's border, or elseway near (oversea too). This feature was thinked to avoid that a faction (for example starting on an island whitout any active treaties... Yes i'm talking about Rhodos...) could remain excluded by the gameplay, thinking the Partially Enabled Diplomacy Factions are the ones belonging to the same geopolitical local theater. The player will always be able to declare war whitout sending emissaries towards the new "Partially Enabled Diplomacy" Factions, while for the other diplomatic offers it will be still necessary to meet the classical condtions (Allied, Trade, Bordering or Own or Foreign Emissaries in Region);
2) fot the AI the new diplomatic conditions will mean that Partially Enabled Diplomacy Factions, also if not Allied, Trade, Bordering or Own or Foreign Emissaries in Region, will be always able to declare war on the owned factions (this will anyway exclude the war declaration from other side of the world, because the Partially Enabled Diplomacy Factions will be in the neighboorhood). For Partially Enabled Factions (Ai to Ai) will be possible to deal trade agreement too (not with human factions!);
2) since ver 0.15 also the diplomatic offers will deactivate themselves when mouse on, to avoid to see the diplomatic outcome for not finalizable dealings;
3) since ver 0.15 the mod will be totally compatible with Grand Campaign and Ceasar in Gaul Campaign;
4) a lot of changes and global fixes to make the mod totally uncheatable;
It's possible that there will be some anomalies with the old saved games, so it's safe to backup all the files (storaging a copy of them in a different folder from the native one) before the announced update. Thank you all!

Hey, i can report already one issue regarding WoS with v0.14, and that would probably remain with v0.15.

Example, the Melos isle:

Those isles have no access movement tiles for diplomats (or other map characters) to enter the isle and negotiating anything. That means, such isle can only be attacked (or entered/contacted) via naval army.

The deployment zone (red area) of the city (or positioned army) hinder any entering of the isle (region) itself.

So that issue concerns tiny isles, that are rendered with only a very short access border line between sea and isle, which in the case of Melos is only at the city itself.
In result of this, a diplomatic contact is impossible.

To add to the abovementioned: I personally would put those isles/faction into an exception rule, with the aim, that diplomatic contact is possible, when a diplo character is positioned close at the city tile (port) ... if that is technically possible.

I think, other exception rules are not really necessary in regard of "forgotten (excluded) by the gameplay".

You are right! For this reason (and for other ones) i'm finishing work on the new ver. 0.15. In this version (to be tested, so i fear to release it by deleting the old gamers' savegames) It will be possible to have some interactions (war and trade; trade because trough that treaty the faction have access to diplomacy, for the near factions (also oversea). I hust have to find time to finish this project. This is about the last screenshot i relaease about ver. 0.15 https://ibb.co/JKJhdZH

Hey, to the "Rome" screenie above: Maybe it needs somewhat different NoDiplomacy (ND) versions?

I think i can clearly say, that in WoS i do not miss anything, except just the by map model hindered entering of tiny isles like Melos. And such isles need to be adressed.

I personally would really prefer simple solutions ... sometimes less is more ;)

So in regard of the screenie example, but i'm not sure, that i understand it right (guess, it's Empire Divided), but when Sicily with Pompey's Rome is such an isle (model) case as mentioned, then yes.
Else, if Sicily can be entered merely normal by characters (dignitary, general/army), then i would not touch that with the exception rule.

As for the basic starting diplomacy in the campaigns, CA made it far better than in the past. What i mean is, the diplomatic contacts and changes shouldn't be changed in few first turns, when one is looking for a halfway historical gameplay ;)

What does that mean? Your mod is liked by me especially, because diplomacy is a slightly bigger effort, for human player and AI.

And there is another pretty annoying thing in the diplo mechanics, rather AI behaviour*: AI likes to request almost every turn one of the "friendly" treaties. It would be great, if at least the player could block AI requests ;) ... of such factions.

* that even happens when some AI steering code says "AI shall not put a focus on diplomacy but shall consider it at last". That's at least the case, when borders are shared.

I almost wanted to suggest, that shared borders are not enough to make diplomacy (without Dignitary). In WoS, i can imagine that diplomacy only with Dignitary could be helpful.

as you can test, now that the 0.15 is gone to public beta, the dignitaries and the generals (of armies, not of navies) if at sea can enable diplomacy also if they don't land on the isle: they have just to stay very near (7 steps, very tiny measure) in the sea around the port. For other considerations i have to say that i really agree with you that small campaigns (like wos) should have only the emissary in region enabling diplomacy. Anyway now more testing is needed, but i start to collect these ideas for the next release. Feel free to continue testing it and report me if you want any observations of yours; i'm very pleased of that!
