Announcing: Per Aspera Reforged Eden
Hey everyone,

So, Salk and I have been talking about this for quite a while - essentially, we've started to look at Ad Astra as a singleplayer-focused scenario. I mean, it's all about reducing the grind so that anyone can go from a starter all the way to endgame without feeling like they're being artificially held back. However, we've also discovered in the process that these changes have made coop a bit...untenable. There's not much cooperation required when you can get yourself from beginning to end with minimal (or no) assistance.

Therefore, we've been planning on working on a second scenario that's multiplayer-focused: Per Aspera. To those who are wondering what the hell the words mean, Ad Astra ("to the stars") Per Aspera ("through hardship/difficulties"), which we feel is quite apt at describing each scenario. Basically, it'll still reduce the grind significantly, but it'll be meant to *require* people to cooperate to achieve more. This means limitations and challenges, but *fair* ones (nothing pisses me off in game more than an unfair death - just ask Salk). So, that's essentially what Per Aspera is: A multiplayer focused, more challenging (and varied) combat, cooperation-driven scenario!

We're honestly making it more for ourselves, but considering that there's a few subscribers for AdA, we'll also be releasing PeA to the public if they want to try it out.

I'll leave a small FAQ for questions that we expect, but please feel free to provide feedback, questions, concerns, etc., and we will absolutely listen to them and take them into consideration!

EDIT [9/3/2024]: We're considering dropping PeA in favor of maintaining both AdA and AdA-2, as PeA doesn't have enough going for it right now for full release that makes it stand out from AdA. We'll come back to this!

Does this mean that Ad Astra will end or development stop?
Nope! We'll continue development and updating of Ad Astra for as long as we can support both scenarios. If anything Per Aspera will guarantee Ad Astra development, as they'll be essentially be developed in parallel!

Could I still play PeA in singleplayer?
Yes - it would be a serious challenge, like trying to do a solo RE campaign, but FAR less grindy. We'll try to compromise where we can to make sure singleplayer isn't left behind, but the intent is to focus on multiplayer for PeA.

You say "develop" AdA and PeA a lot. Define "development". What does that mean, exactly?
In this case, it means that Salk and I will be working on adding to the scenario. We like the main changes, but want to go further afield. We're talking custom assets, POIs, and a fully original mini-campaign (loosely tied to the main RE campaign), the whole smash. However, we've both been learning how to do this from scratch, so it's been an ongoing process.

Does this mean that the scenarios will have a different story than RE or Empyrion itself?
Not really. What we want to add are things that enhance, not overwrite. Any story elements will be added in conjunction with the latest RE updates, but they'll be separate. Essentially, its own self-contained story elements and side-quests. And not only do we have some pretty damn cool ideas for storylines, due to my background in STEM (specifically physics), I will try to make them fit our current understanding of physics and nature. Meaning that while it'll be sci-fi, I'll make it as accurate as I can to real life (including an explanation on FTL travel in Empyrion)!

Why not just add PeA to AdA? Why have two separate scenarios?
Game limitation, ngl. I'd love to have both in the same scenario and have users choose between on and the other, but (in what I suspect is what happened to the RE guys), that's not really possible. So, we have to add a separate scenario. Believe me, I'm not thrilled about having to manage a separate mod, but it's something we finally want to move forward with.

What about compatibility with RE2?
Uh, good question. One to which I don't have an answer to, mostly because we don't know what exactly are the changes being made to RE2. We have a list of stuff planned, but the end result could be somewhat different. I think we'll try to adapt AdA and PeA to RE2, just so that everyone can keep getting new content/updates from RE2.

Hey can you add-
I'mma stop you right there. You're ALWAYS welcome to provide feedback, and we're always looking for it so we can adapt and grow the scenario. You can ALWAYS ask us to add stuff.

We're not *obliged* to make the changes, but we can guarantee that we will always take requests seriously, and try to find a way to make them fit.

Also, we're totally adding a bathroom/shower block (or blocks) for SVs. We just have to figure out the how and get a good set of assets, but now you'll have a way to deal with that pesky radiation while in a SV!

(unless you're up to your ass in radiation medicine, which case more power to ya lol)

How possible is it to add radiation cleaning to the portable medical station for SVs?

Shouldn't be too hard, I think? I'd have to look at it. Can do this as an interim step between now and having the SV block made.
