Halo CE: REBALANCE

[Big Issue] 343 Guilty Spark
Similar to my other post, I only have one big gripe with this mission. That being the fact that you can earn the help of sentinels almost immediately after encountering the flood for the first time. To me, the developer intent was for you to feel complete despair and isolation while within the facility, until you finally escape and find your marine allies (I actually like the Johnson change.) However, this mod breaks that almost immediately with the sentinels you can earn, and it breaks Bungie's drip feed philosophy. I can't think of one time, in any of the games, that Bungie outright introduces multiple new enemies, and especially entirely new factions, within the span of five minutes. It's very jarring, and it becomes even more jarring when you consider that the sentinels only show up for one room. Like that would remotely stop a flood outbreak. Nothing about it works for me sadly.

You could just not unlock the sentinels. It's hidden objective and reward. I personally loved it.

@Simulacra I'll just respond to both of your comments here. Both of these additions are only an issue on first playthroughs. Especially the tank on TB since first time players will take it as the intended experience to drive the tank in the last part of that mission when it is far from what was intended for that mission. A warthog would still be a reward for that part and simultaneously wouldn't allow a first time player to immediately nuke either the flood or the covenant.

As for the sentinels, it doesn't even make sense as a reward. They show up for one room and do what exactly? What do they contribute in a narrative sense that makes sense? It would be a tangible reward that would make sense if they were brought in for the entire first floor as a reward, which would allow you to feel a bit more desperation when you descend the elevator into territory that gives you no sentinel allies. Still not a fan from a horror perspective, but it would at least have more of a purpose as a reward then.

Also, the tank on mission 2 is a bit silly. It's fun and I don't mind it that much (never liked that mission anyways). But the fact its tied to just push some random forerunner button is astonishing to me. I get having Easter eggs, all the games have them. But on a mission where a player is first learning about Halo and its intricacies, it's a bit jarring to have an easter egg tied to them on the second mission. I think it'd be far better used as a reward for keeping all marines alive in the first section of the level.

Also, "Just don't use it bro." is a band-aid solution for many mods, it doesn't make it a positive for the mod just because it's an option. It's Ruby's Rebalanced Halo: CE mod right? Rebalanced to be the CE we never got without sacrificing what Halo CE has always been. Everything about its design philosophy, and how he speaks in his videos SCREAMS that he cares a whole lot about first time experiences. Really, if he wanted to keep all of this stuff, he easily could by just, yet again, following Bungie's design philosophy. Nobody will ever and has ever gotten the scarab gun in Halo 2 on their first playthrough. Make the easter eggs as insane as you want, just keep it out of the reach of new players.

I think you're very excited and what you're talking about are things someone on their first playthrough may not even experience. I think these things won't be changed either way so it's best to accept it LMAO.

@HoLY-MOsey I think I'm just providing feedback on a mod that has been re-tuned multiple times in the past. He has stated multiple times that he refines things based off of feedback. Once again, there isn't a single example of a Bungie easter egg that is this transformative to the experience and is simultaneously easily gotten by new players.

Ruby has mentioned during his H2R dev streams he'll come back to CER, so your wishes/requests may be granted in the future.
