I find that Thorium can stand side by side with Calamity... But Post-moonlord you will have to completely migrate to Calamity with very few exceptions. (there are a FEW Thorium items that remain relevant)
I tend to run both because Thorium just has amazing bosses and, while relevant, fun weapons and items... I'd basically be doing a disservice to myself to not use it.
But I am also an insane person and try to run as many mods as possible without breaking the game.
Melee Primordial Suit for the win with that shield? Might as well be Gem Tech except with a decent "Oh, shiiiiiiii-" skill.
yes, they work together by technicality, the world can generate and the two mods existing probably wont crash your game
No, in the sense that Calamity's progression is way steeper and faster, so balance and gameplay wise, they are very much incompatible
Also guys please stop having a war over calamity vs thorium, they're two different mods with 2 different ways of scaling progression. Comparing them in any other way than "which one is most MP friendly" or "how many items are there" and "what progression pace to i prefer?" is stupid and its silly and gets no-one anywhere ever, thank you.

Yeah that is a common bug I've heard.
