Possibility ripping not rotten corpses?
Hey there. I am trying to follow the logic this new DLC brings with it.

Since you created a mod having almost the same mechanic like the vanilla, but with a twist in it, would it be possible to make this device able to rip off genes from dead, unrotten!, corpses?
It should also be no issue to implement a truncate function to the gene you ripped off from the corpse (removing augments or organs for example are realistically applying this mechanic), since it is not a living creature thus not able to pump blood and thus even more not able to regenerate cells.

In reality, it is even a common practice getting a DNA sample from a frozen corpse (like from a Mammoth a couple of years ago, or even from a Dodo, just recently, few months ago) and sequence it properly at their labs.
This should have been a general vanilla feature in this game, yet Ludeon defies this logic for no real common reason.

May you able to implement this feature, for this particular device (or even as a global function)?
Thank you!

It's not balanced my friend. Especially with how this device kills a pawn, it wouldn't make sense to be able to get a similar benefit for free like that.

Since when is RimWorld balanced anyways? lol
Logic is still not deniable, that people can extract genes from frozen / not rotten corpses.

Maybe making the extraction inefficient like only extracting a very limited number of random genes from the corpse and putting a high probably chance of failure to extract any genes and destroying the body in the process would be a way to balance

Corpses still have genes, so it is certainly possible.

I'm sure you could balance it by making it expensive and taking a long time, but it is functionally rather similar to this mod. Instead of it costing a living prisoner you'd just raise the costs in other areas (e.g. requiring advanced components, more electricity, longer extraction period, etc.).

Maybe instead of taking a long time, there needs to be multiple samples that need to be taken to ensure the desired gene is intact since killing a person and then trying to obtain a gene may be difficult if they have been shredded by bullets to a pulp
How about making an option to consume a non rotten corpse for a random gene?

Honestly the amount of resource investment needed to use any of this is enough "balance" for me. I don't need or want the micromanagement of capturing prisoners just for this lol, like there's already dynamic difficulty addressing colony wealth and options to turn that off entirely. Seconding that I would really like something like this to speed things up a little, it's immersion-breaking to even have to kill them, since when is genetics done like that? lol we have technology right now in the boring low-tech 21st to replicate DNA indefinitely from a single blood draw.
I feel like the only thing you shouldn't be able to rip out of corpses is archite genes, but other than that I think it'd be fine, maybe its a lower quality sample that needs to be stabilized or whatever before it can be used. Either way it should stop you from just infinitely harvesting archite genes.

Enabling fresh corpses could be paired with a 100% chance to turn pawn into paste in this machine, living or dead, that way you don't have the option to run someone through twice and you exchange meat and leather for the option of gene ripping the corpse field left by a raid. Maybe compensate by making human-like corpses rot faster so you're less able to collect them.

That seems a reasonable way to do it, now if only I could code 😂

Genes decay very quickly irl. Unless your guy died in the fridge, i doubt it.
