NEW UPDATE - 30 JULY 2023

This new update brings an array of features that I think will enhance the gameplay experience. Now updated for the "Tours & Tournaments" and "Royal Court" DLC's, thanks to the kind contribution of @Rellom and @v o i d.

1. Meta Traits Visibility Option: Now you can choose to hide certain meta traits, such as fertility (fecund/sterile), loyalty (loyal/disloyal), and intellect (Genius, Imbecile, Dull, etc.). This adds depth to the game and increases immersion.

2. Disabling Child Personality Traits Option: With this option active Childhood traits like "Rowdy" will still be displayed, but traits like "deceitful," "temperate," or "chaste" will remain hidden until the characters become adults.

3. Limited Information for Characters: Characters about whom the player knows only basic or minimal information will now only display their physical traits. No more instantaneously knowing the education of a far-away count!

4. Skill Masking Option: Characters may now deceive or be perceived by the player to possess skill values higher (or lower, if they are modest) than their actual skills. This feature is influenced by various factors, such as personalities, skills, and traits. This is not random and depends on several factors, like each one's personalities, skills and traits.
Sorting in "Known Characters list" will sort BY PERCEIVED SKILL VALUE and not by real skill. ;)
(If you enable vanilla sorting, then the skill will be sorted by real value so, you might see a character with a B skill below one with C skill)

5. Expanded Rumours: The world is buzzing with new rumours, including rumours about rulers - the so-called "Fake News." These rumours are based on secrets, hinting at potential secrets characters may possess, without necessarily confirming them. Beware, for even the player can become the subject of rumours, with the likelihood increasing with the number of rivals.

6. Find Spouse Decision: Rely on your trusted advisors, each with their unique approach. Diplomats will seek candidates who bring power and prestige, the Court Physician/Chaplain will focus on fertility, a friend will seek genuine love, and your Spymaster will offer an intriguing list of candidates, but with more information about them.

7. Enhanced Spy Scheme: Starting a Spy Scheme will now prompt your Spymaster to launch the "Find Secrets" task on the target court. Information will from all the court will be gathered

8.Court Physician decision: When deciding to find a physician, the candidates' skills and relevant traits will be displayed

9. Reworked Skill Ranges and obfuscated more numbers: Skill ranges have been tweaked to be more consistent with vanilla values, with the A Skill starting at 25. Prestige, dread, gold and piety will now show descriptive words.

10. Enhanced Character Switching: Added an interaction that is only available when a character is incapable: Those who like to change characters via the in game menu might have already noticed that when changing, the relations of the previous character will remain, even if you change to an unrelated character. Now, when switching characters via the in-game menu, the previous character's relations will be cleared, and new ones will be established relevant to the character you switch to. This ensures your playthrough stays fresh.

What this mod does:
This mod hides the information that the character you are playing isn't expected to know like stats of an unknown character or exact chances for schemes, etc. This takes away the feeling of omniscience and delivers a more challenging and roleplay driven experience, more consistent with the game setting.

Why this mod?
The fact that the player is omniscient (knows every single detail about the world and the characters on it) starting to make the game feel tedious for me. So, a couple of months ago I decided to make this mod with a more roleplaying experience in mind. Although I started creating this mod for myself, while I was working on it I thought that more people would enjoy it and so I decided to upload it. hen, after positive feedback and appreciation for this mod, I decided to continue expanding it. Months have passed and, with some ideas of my own and also thanks to the feedback I receive, I keep enhancing the mod (I hope) always with the same goal in mind: Roleplaying.
As I stated in response to the first comments when I first uploaded this mod, I never intended to make any money from it, but lately some people have been asking if they can donate or why don't I set up an account for donations.
Here it is:
If you would like to support me...
You can Buy me a coffee [www.buymeacoffee.com] if you wish but, like I mentioned earlier, I work on the mod for enjoyment so, as long as I can, with or without the coffee [www.buymeacoffee.com], if I feel the need to enhance this mod or perfect it, I will be working on it.

Ok, so...what do you mean by "hiding information"?
Imagine you are playing as a Count in Ireland. Is your character supposed to know the personality of the Duke of Bohemia? And how about his skills? Not even his appearance. Unless, of course, your player character had some prior contact with the Duke of Bohemia or someone had shared some information about the Duke of Bohemia with your character.
So, in its core, this mod hides that information for you untill you have a logical reason to have that information.

How does it work, then?
Depending on the character, this mod hides the following character information:
  • Portrait (optional - setting on game rules)
  • Skill exact values (shown in various ranges, depending of knowledge about character)
  • Personality traits & other traits
  • Personality description
  • Army composition
  • Opinion (is shown with descritive words)
  • Opinion breakdown
  • Dread
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
  • Health
  • Known Languages
  • Gold, Prestige and Piety
  • Inheritable traits in marriages and chance of children
So, if you don't have a reason to know the character you are inspecting, that information is not shown.

How does it work, then? Who and what information can I see?
Most of the characters, except the obvious, will have a tag on their player interaction menu that gives tells you how well you know that character Known Characters , Your Acquaintance or Basic Info :

In game description:
Known Characters: " You can say that you know X, either well or very well, because X is or was a part of your relations network or X is or was a part of your everyday life in some way (a guest, a courtier, etc)"
You can see most of the information for these (of course, even for them, some information may be hidden if you don't have a valid reason to know it; ex: military strength or sexual orientation). The characters you know include your relations like family, friends, etc AND characters with whom you interact directly or have interacted sufficently to expect to know that information

Your Acquaintance: " Although you don't know X well yet, you have more than basic knowledge about X, either because you met before, because of past interactions or because you have heard things about X from other people (ex: a famous person)"
For these characters, some information is hidden, like personality traits, skill values have broader ranges, etc. These characters include, for example, someone with whom you have interacted more than the mere basic (is not someone you just seen on a feast but also you talked a little bit)

Basic Information: " Altough you may not know X very well yet, you have at least gathered some information about X, either because you have met, through interactions, schemes or because someone shared it with you."
For these characters, most information is hidden, like skill values that are completely unknown. You will know nothing but the basic that you could tell just by looking at a person: approximate age, distinctive traits (ex: dwarf, scarred), etc. These characters are mainly someone you have seen at a feast or some close relation of your close relation (yes, it's expect that your friends tells you things about its family, children, etc).

There are other special characters that, although you have never seen, it's expected you have heard something about, like famous characters or foreign kings or emperors. For those, you will know a little more than the basic and a little less than if they were your acquaintance.

Of course, for unknown characters, only name and titles they hold is shown.

Also, certain positions give you access to information like being the marshal giving you information about military strength of your liege's vassals or being a steard giving gold information. Of course, if you are a Spymaster, you will have access to both of those informations and the same goes for regents.

But wait...will I know that information forever?
Well, yes and no.
Of course, you are expected to remember your children (not always in real life but in CK3 there's nothing I can do)
But...remember that courtier you knew and you dismissed and never again interacted with? Remember the spouse from whom you divorced and she fled for another court? Well, you will still retain the knowledge about them for a time (they are Known Characters but after some time you will loose some knowledge about them (yes, people change) and they become mere Acquaintances. And given further time, you will only retain their Basic Information, untill they become just another shade in the world of CKIII.
Same happens for characters you met at a feast (don't expect your character to remember for years a random courtier who was part of an entourage at a feast). You will know their basic info for sometime but after that, they are again unknown to you.

Then how do I get information from characters?
  • Interactions (like becoming a friend or sending emissaries)
  • Schemes (Befriend, seduce, etc). Works both ways, wheter the scheme is yours or you are the target.
  • Activities (Feasts, Playdates, Hunts)
  • Spying (A new scheme introduced by the mod
  • Rumours (see below)
  • By asking your guests and courtiers (see below)
  • Through close relations

How?:
Almost every interaction in the game will provide with information about a character, be it through other people telling you or by means of activities, interactions (new and vanilla), schemes (new and vanilla) and some mechanics like:

Close relations when you establish some kind of new close relation with someone, it is expected that they tell you things about their life, including the people that are part of it. So, when marrying, making friends or lovers you will have basic information about their cloise relations (of course, rivals are excluded form this list since they wouldn't give you that info)

Send Emissary (allows you to send an emissary to someone's court to gather information on them; The information provided will depend on your Chancellor skill)

Request Military Info (For most characters, their military information is hidden; you can try to ask them...or torture them if they are your prisoners)

Ask your advisors for advice (Depending on your marshal skill, it will try to estimate the military strength of someone...but NEVER give exact values)

Ask information to newly arrived at court (When a guest or a new courtier joins your court, you will be informed that they can be asked information about the previous court they were. Of course, the information they give you, if they give any, will depend on their personality. Some will not want to talk about it while others will even tell you secrets. Also, information is cumulative so, if you ask about the same person to two different courtiers you will get MORE information than asking to only one)

Rumours: From time to time you will be informed that your character has heard a rumour about someone he doesn't know, like "X beauty is a subject of gossip". Characters of whom you heard rumours will have a inon on their portrait indicating that.

Activities: Invite (or attend) people to activities and you will meet them and then will have basic knowledge about them. With luck, you both interact more than just meet or you are a sociable person and so are they and you get more than the basic.

Spying: The spy scheme is a new scheme that is introduced and allows you to gather information on someone, like military info or secrets (of course, find secrets task was disabled or it would be redundant. Other schemes like befriend, seduce or romance have been refined (read tooltips in game) so there are some restritions (because a count in France wouldn't be able to try to seduce the Kaiserin of the HRE...unless they know each other).

Is there more information hidden?
Yes. A lot.
  • Success chance and Secrecy (changed to Risk of Discovery) of schemes ( shown with descritive words)
  • Acceptance chance of interactions will be shown with descriptions instead of percentage
  • Some values of variable modifiers for opinions and interactions are hidden (no point in hiding fixed values)
  • Chances of event outcomes. Instead of "30% chance of" will show "May happen"
  • Other information that should't be known

I want a more hardcore experience
You can customize your experience on the game rules:

Show portraits: Enables or disables the portraits for unknown characters

Personality Traits: Hides personality traits (not description) for ALL characters in game except you. Other traits are shown

Character Opinions: Disables opinions of characters or only their breakdown for ALL characters in the game (This option synergizes with the options below)

Portrait express opinion: Enables the portraits of characters to show their facial and body expression match how they feel about the player. BUT, if you choose the option to be based on personality, treacherous characters will not change their expression, regardless of their opinion of you. (ex: Your "blackguard" vassal hates you but he will have an idle expression...as he would if he loved you)

Portrait glow: Enables the glow on small portraits to match the colour od the player opinion about the player.

Other features worth mentioning
This mod adds new lists to activity guests so, for example, you can turn a feast into a "bachelors ball".

Personality description is only shown for Known Characters. For Acquaintances you will only know a basic description like "X looks cordial and polite" or "Y seems stingy and hysterical". For characters you just met you only have a first impression like "X seems a sociable person" or "Y seems introverted".

Most of the knowledge you get or outcomes from interactions and schemes will depend on your personality, target character personality and past interactions with them (yes, try to befriend someone you imprisoned or someone whom you stole their wife or title. They won't forget)

Other things
I may have forgotten to list some features since there are a lot of new additions. If it comes up, I'll edit this post.

An important note
This mod tries to be as consistent as possible with "real life". Of course, it is not always possible due to:
- game engine
- my lack of coding knowledge (yes, I'm not a coder)
- The game is supposed to be fun so, sometimes adding too much would make it bothersome or tedious ( i.e.: removing the penalties of traits on the opinion breakdown; since the penalties are fixed, by removing them, instead of the game becoming more immersive, would only make us google information to check what the penalty is for and ambitious person vs a content)

Also, I tried with this mod to emphasize one of the aspects that I love in CK3 that is the fact that each character has a personality that makes them act in a given way. As such, the outcomes of schemes and interactions that were added depend mostly in the personality of the intervenients (i.e.: Not everyone will offer himself as an agent in a plot to spy...but you can be sure that most dishonorable characters will be willing to join. This is just an example.)

Support
You can Buy me a coffee [www.buymeacoffee.com] if you wish

Game version
This mod is updated for the latest Paradox patch but not for the "Royal Court" and "Tours & Tournaments" DLC's so, although the mod will work, information on screens introduced by those DLC's will be shown.

Compatibility
This mod must be last on load order
This mod is expected to be FULLY compatible with mods that only add flavour like RICE, etc
This mod will most certainly have major compatibility issues with overhauls and mods that change the UI, game rules or schemes

IMHO: I made this Patch for compatibility with In My Humble Opinion

Crusader Wars: There is an option on the game rules that you can change if you are using Crusader wars mod. This only makes a minor change to the game and it's showing the martial skill of commanders in battle

Additional notes:
Tooltips in the game explain most changes

TO BE UPDATED

Some tips
- When "Requesting military advice" the advice that will be given is just an estimate an not an exact value, and the accuracy depens of both you and your marshal combined martial skill. Also, the personality of your marshal will have an effect on the advice so don't expect that an adventurous marshal shows weakness when estimating the force of his liege's army (which he is responsible) but, on the other hand, do not expect optimism from a coward marshal. Also, don't expect a marshal to show weakness if you are asking information about one of his rivals and expect a zealous marshal to be eager to join war against different religions.
Needless to say that irrational marshal give irrational advices.

- having a spymaster will grant you more success chance either in the Scheme itself, either in recruiting agents. You will see that, if you Don't Have a spymaster, some agents (except those who do know you) will not accept joining your plot by telling you that you are not the person they were expecting to discuss the matter.
- some agents will tell you that they "probably are not the person you Were looking" and that means that their intrigue skill is very low and they have a honest or honorable personality so they would contribute little or Nothing to Scheme success

- other agents will tell you that they probably aren't the person you were looking but, if you insist, they will join, which means that their intrigue is low but given their personality, they would be happy to accept a bribe and join the plot

- Dishonorable, disloyal and Treacherous characters will almost always be willing to betray the victim... and yourself

- when asking a guest for information, if they have a malicious personality, they will, besides giving you information about their prior court, share a secret about the ruler

- threatening characters for information will almost always make them give you information BUT if they are bold or have a close relation with you they will not give that information and defy you to Torture them.

- if you are a councillor and are caught spying your liege, you will Be dismissed as a councillor. Of course, if you are the spymaster it will the chances of them exposing you are very low

- your spymaster (and yours) diplomatic skill will contribute to convincing agents to join your Scheme ("your representative make a good point about this... ")

- agents will Be reluctant to join plots already exposed

- agents sociability will make them Be more successfull at spying

- the number of agents interferes with the chances of the Scheme being discovered (the more, the higher chance) but also interferes with the chance to discover secrets (the more agents, the more secrets uncovered)

- having the target marshal join the Scheme will allow an event (if the Scheme is not exposed) in which he offers you information about the target's army. Of course, the marshal Has to have a dishonest personality

- when you start a Scheme and there are no agents willing to join it, wait at least 3 months because there will Be an event in which the spymaster comes with an idea to recruit more agents

- when taegetting someone close to the spymaster, he will sometimes ask you to join the plot

- the support schemes task will Be your best friend when spying.

- an exposed Scheme without a certain positive difference between Scheme power and Scheme resistance will not progress

- targets with spymasters with high intrigue and intrigue traits will Be more resistant and also the chance of discovery is higher

- Be carefull with decisions in some events. For example, in one particular event, you send "your envoys" to intimidate an agent who is thinking about leaving the Scheme. Sometimes their encounter with the agent will not go as planned and the agent will have "an accident" and die. If discovered, you will Be exposed as a murderer

So far I’m absolutely loving how this mod had transformed the game for me. However, I’ve noticed some issues after about 10 or so hours with this mod:

- Sending an emissary to a court will only show basic info on the owner of the court but not their immediate family and councillors. I’m guessing this is not working as intended.

- You can still kind of cheese the “fog of war” and lack of information you have on everybody by using the charachter finder. You can type in any trait for example and the list will update to show you characters that actually have that trait even though it’s hidden in the UI. Anyway around this?

- I can’t seem to ask guests for information on their previous court. I don’t see the interaction…

- Likewise, I can’t see the interaction to threaten prisoners for secrets. I have this mod at the very bottom of my load order so I don’t know what could be going on here.
Jp78  [developer] Jan 25, 2023 @ 3:47pm
- sending an emissary will only show BASIC traits like education, physical traits, etc of the court owner and family (spouse, children, councillors) IF they are in the court. For example, it will not show traits of landed children because, as expected, your emissary did not see them because they were not at the court.

- unfortunately, I would have to disable the Finder completely

- only certain guests will have the interaction available. When they join your court, you will Be notified

- there is no interaction for threatening prisoners for secrets but if you try to request military information for prisoners you will see an event where you threaten them. As for secrets, vanilla already does that because when you try to Torture a prisoner, if he has a secret there is a chance that he reveals a secret.
Jp78  [developer] Jan 25, 2023 @ 3:52pm
Just tested everything after I posted the reply, it's working as mentioned.
Of course, bear in mind that if a prisoner is not landed will not share any military info with you.
As for guests, you will have to wait a couple of years before guests that have visited another court join your court since when starting a new game, all guest will either be at the first court they visit or in a pool (so they didn't visit any court). Don't worry, you will receive a notification when a guest that has that interaction available joins the court.

Also, an important thing I forgot to mention:

INFORMATION WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR THREE YEARS.

Sorry for not mentioning this before. But it's to mimic the fact that the world changes, so do people... and their military.

Thanks for clearing everything up!

Some suggestions:

1. I know you’re limited with what you can do with the character finder but I noticed that when I click on “Find Spouse” you removed the “Inheritable Traits” filter. This is great. Perhaps you can also remove the “Claims” filter. I don’t think it’s realistic that I can find a list of every single character with a Pressed Claim that’s willing to marry my heir even though I’ve probably never seen or heard of anybody that shows up on the list. This should add some more immersion and realism.

2. When your character makes a friend it would make sense that you would know a lot more about that friend’s family through all your conversations with them. Perhaps befriending someone could reveal the stats of their Close Family? Or at a bare minimum reveal traits and education of their Close Family?

3. A tooltip to show the ranges of values for opinion would be great. So if relations are Excellent, scrolling over that could show a tooltip informing you that opinion is higher than 85.

4. Likewise a tooltip showing a range of values for stats would be helpful. So if someome is “B” in Diplomacy, scrolling over the letter would show you a tooltip telling you that the real value is between 16-30. A skill value of “A” means 31 or higher but is there something higher than A??
Jp78  [developer] Jan 25, 2023 @ 5:09pm
1 & 2 - I will analyse the possibility of implementing that.

3 & 4 - I don't know if I removed it but ranges are available in the mod description. But yes, maybe it could be added in the tooltip. Never thought of that.

(just checked, the ranges for opinion are in the mod description; the ranges for skills are:

F < 4
D 5 to 8
C 9 to 16
B 17 to 32
A 33 to 48
A+ 49 to 64
AA - above 49

for --, +- and ++, the ranges are 6 / 6 to 20 / 21 to 48. above 48 will show AA or A+ since a character with such knowledge would be famous for it.
What are some likely compatibilities if I try to use this with this modlist? Link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2907217259
Jp78  [developer] Jan 26, 2023 @ 9:51am
I think it will be compatible with most of the mods on that list (I would have to analyze them) but from a first glance, I think it will not work correctly with the unnoficial Patch
Okay I tested it out

Placed in the list below everything: now overrides SoW UI (Edicts unavailable, in particular); Show me your Council no longer works, too

Placed in the list above SoW: now obfusCKate does very little, you can see everyone's stats and such, there's only a couple things it hides

And, either way, the Find Secrets task seems to still be available, whereas I think it should not be?

Would presumably need a compatch

hi, sorry if this came up already earlier, but is it normal that I can't see my own garrisons? is it due to this mod's effects or it has nothing to do?
Jp78  [developer] Jan 26, 2023 @ 2:08pm
It is expected that you see your garrisons and those of your vassals. Probably you have other mods installed.
pablomarti354 Jan 26, 2023 @ 2:10pm
ok, i see my vassals’ but not mine, i will check thanks
Jp78  [developer] Jan 26, 2023 @ 2:12pm
Can you see anyone else's?
pablomarti354 Jan 26, 2023 @ 2:54pm
no, I can only my vassals’. Probably a weird interaction with other mods, although I can’t figure out which one bcause I have no other mods affecting the UI. I will investigate more
Jp78  [developer] Jan 26, 2023 @ 3:17pm
Update coming:

After making a close relation (friend, best friend, lover or soulmate), you will Be given some information about their family, spouse, friends and lovers.
Thanks to Butch for the idea and I think it goes into the spirit of this mod so I implemented it.
