Why I found the sound does not feel right :
While the visual effects are very well done, I think the sound design is not ideal. Let me explain:
I get the parallel with the reenactment video, but the sound is recorded through the small camera microphone, which is often incased in a tiny hole and does not provide the full spectrum of sound vibration nor capture well the bass. Thus limiting the sound to high / trebel is not a fair representation. The topic of replicating firing sound in media is a complicated subject, but I think you have to use more bass to induce the vibration of a real firing sound. I'm speaking from my experience in the military, while distant gun fire do sound high pitched and merge allmost completly with reverb; it's absolutly not the same when you are handeling the weapon or being close to it: In this case you really feel the low pitched vibration going through your body. If I recall correctly, past 120db sound behave like a shockwave.
Thus, incorporating more bass when near the detonation, it will sounds more realistic.

Maybe try to lean more to the sound design of battlefield bad company, where there is more punch to guns but still with huge reverb.
