Contributions Locked - Processing Backlog
Contributions are currently locked and a backlog of contributed stories are being processed.

Things that are currently missing are:

  • Lots of occupation events and settlements.
  • Lots of versus events between lords currently in the game.
  • Daemon Prince, Kostaltyn and Boris Ursus do not have Chamber of Visions entries (where you witness their fate in the end times). You are welcome to think of something otherwise I will get around to it at some point myself.

Remember stories need to be concise to avoid slowing the flow of gameplay from too much reading. Thus I advise aiming for under 500 words and definitely under 1000 words.

Remember to check here to see what events are already in the mod:

Thank you everyone for your contributions and good luck.

Title: The Celestial Empire
Subtitle: Lothern Laid Low
Trigger: Cathayan occupation of Lothern

Description:

The High Elves of Ulthuan have been in contact with the court of the Dragon Emperor for many ages now. Diplomatic relations between the two mighty states were commenced with the arrivals of Asur envoys acting on behalf of the Phoenix King Aethis the Poet. Since then, trade between our two kingdoms has flourished, with our spice, silk and jades being a valuable commodity among the Elven race. Despite this beneficial arrangement, relations have recently soured to the point of conflict.

The Elves of Ulthuan have long claimed themselves as friends to dragonkind. Certainly kind words, but given their subjugation of the Western Dragons, they have rung hollow for some time now. Thus, when the Elven prince, Imrik of Caledor, made a scandalous remark about Princess Miao Ying, a demand for an apology and for Imrik’s arrest was thus sent to Phoenix King Finubar the Seafarer. While an apology was issued, the offending prince was not delivered. With that, a declaration of war was inevitable.

Yin-Yin, the Sea Dragon, worked together with her siblings to raise an invasion fleet that
consisted of hundreds of war junks and transport vessels. The Great Dragon Fleet thus departed for Fu-Chow and made the long voyage towards its destination of Ulthuan. Great secrecy was maintained about the fleet’s intentions, with magic being used to conceal it from prying eyes.

Hence, when Lothern came within range of the fleet’s cannons, the Asur defenders were found to be unprepared to resist. Cathayan land forces quickly set ashore and dispersed the resisting Lothern Sea Guards. With the city refusing to surrender, the Great Dragon Fleet turned its guns on the city and allowed it to feel the Dragon Emperor’s righteous rage. By the time the guns ceased to fire due to fears of excessive usage, the greatest city of Ulthuan was engulfed in an all-consuming inferno.

Fearful of further loss of life, King Finubar sued for peace and agreed to the terms that he had foolishly rejected previously. Prince Imrik was delivered to the Dragons, albeit gagged and restrained. No doubt his kin blamed his loose lips for the ensuing catastrophe. The Phoenix King was also forced to recognise the Dragon Emperor as his suzerain and to send regular tribute to the Cathayan court. More importantly, the mighty High Elf Fleet now answers to Yin-Yin, a boon to the forces of the Celestial Empire.

As the overlord of the Asur kingdoms though, it is now Grand Cathay’s duty to protect it from any external threats. With the machinations of the Witch King Malekith’s constantly aimed at his former home, a war with the repulsive Druchii may just be a matter of time. Hence, it is advisable that the Cathayan forces stationed in Lothern be prepared to set sail once more. The fall of Naggarond would be an event both Grand Cathay and Ulthuan would likely welcome.

Title: Heroes Collide
Subtitle: Fateweaver Flambée
Trigger: Skrag the Slaughterer vs Kairos Fateweaver (Skrag victory)

Ogres.

Kairos smirked twicefold at the corpulent horde laid before him.

The last, desperate experiment of the Old Ones to stave off their ultimate fate. Such strength, such resilience; such stupidity, such hunger. Half-finished pawns of their cold-blooded forebears, reduced from the final bastion against the Dark Powers to gluttonous nomads, driven from their homeland by Cathayan meddling in things beyond their ken into the mountains.

Easy prey, all told. With such a foe as this, all there was to do was choose the means of their inevitable destruction.

His mind’s eye ran down the golden skeins of possibility, passing fitfully through futures of flaming ogres and melting flesh, until his foresight was suddenly consumed by a vision of a great pot, filled with boiling oil. From it rose, dropping with molten fat and smothered with unidentifiable crumbs, a great plucked avian body - that was immediately recognisable as Kairos’s own.

For an attosecond, his vision was consumed by a great gullet, lined with teeth.

The Fateweaver tried to pull his mind’s eye back from the surreal nightmare, but more and more futures began to dominate his vision, all of them showing a horrifying, culinary end.

His wings were deep fried and coated with spices, his chest carved into thin strips and served on skewers, his torso shoved in an oven with a stuffing of rosemary and orange slices, his great legs reduced to drumsticks being happily chewed clean by ogrish maws as his heads and feet were boiled down to stock and stew.

Kairos never foresaw the chained harpoons that plunged into his chest, but he certainly felt himself wrenched from the sky and dragged through the melee, smashed with clubs by guffawing ogres. The visions of how to serve Lords of Change faded, replaced by a singular sight - the face of Skrag the Slaughterer, caught in a gleeful grin, as he raised Kairos’s heads upon his blades and forced Tzeentch’s favoured servant faces first into the Cauldron.

As the bubbles stopped rising, Skrag tentatively licked a drop of the Daemon-infused concoction off his chopper.

“Hrrm. Tastes like chicken.”

Title: Heroes Collide
Subtitle: A Climactic Clash
Trigger: Skarbrand vs N’Kari (N’Kari victory)

The proximity between the armies of Slaanesh’s favourite servant and Khorne’s exiled champion meant conflict was inevitable. The enmity between the Blood God and the Prince of Pleasure was deep and abiding, and thus was battle joined.

Bloodcrushers roared into battle as they scattered scantily-armoured Marauders before them as Daemonettes giggled, cruel and coquettish, as they selected Khornate dancing partners. Packs of Flesh Hounds darted around the screaming wheels of chariots as Fiends tore apart Khorne’s dread machines.

And at the centre of it all, the Exile and the Soul-Flayer duelled. Skarbrand moved with all the furious speed and strength he could muster, even as N’Kari weaved gracefully around each blow, the Bloodthirster shrugging off his blows.

Hate filled Skarbrand’s mind as his foe dodged his strikes, and chattered incessantly. Skarbrand hated chatter.

“I should have fought Doombreed. Or Ka’Bandha. Even An’ggrath. That would have been a challenge.”

Slaughter caught the Keeper of Secret’s side, releasing a spray of viscous ichor. N’Kari twirled out of Carnage’s path, as the Witstealer Sword inscribed a bloody line across Skarbrand’s chest.

“A wasted effort. What wits have you left to steal, anyway?”

Skarbrand just snarled, his rage coalescing into a bolus of burning fury. The Unforgiven spat his ire at his foe, and N’Kari twisted in sybaritic agony as the fiery venom burned sublimely at his eyes. With a thrust of his ruined wings, Skarbrand leapt into the air, bringing his ruinous axes down upon the blinded Flesh-Tempter.

N’Kari grinned as he bent and twirled to meet his incoming foe, his corrupt pincers catching the Bloodthirster by his meaty wrists. His sinewy body strained against Skarbrand’s might, and with two hands N’Kari drove his hell sword right through the Exile’s heart.

N’Kari leaned in intimately close as the Bloodthirster gnashed and spat blood.
“As much of a failure of a penitent as you were a usurper. Better luck next time!”

He twisted the sword and wrenched it sideways, and Skarbrand went roaring into oblivion.

N’Kari tried to dodge, but Skarbrand’s momentum drove him forwards and down. Carnage sunk deep into the Keeper of Secrets’ shoulder with a wet crunch, and Slaughter sheared the Soul-Flayer’s head from his neck.

The decapitated skull gurgled confusedly on the ground as it rolled away.

“Well, this is a new sensation.” It tried to bite at one of the Bloodletters who came to collect it. As it was dragged away to the piles, Skarbrand heard it yell.

“He will never forgive you! No matter how much tribute, no matter how worthy the prize! Never!”

Skarbrand hated chatter.

Question? Have you done settlement lore for kislev yet?

eg:

Title: Construction/exploration lore
Subtitle: Volksgrad
Trigger: explore/construct Volksgrad

Volksgrad is the last major settlement before the High Pass and, thus, the place where outbound caravans do their last bit of re-supplying and celebrating—or their first bit after coming back. As a result, entertainment and travelling supplies are very expensive, whilst exotic imports from distant Cathay are relatively cheap.

The stanitsa is also the target for repeated Greenskin raids and has high walls as a result. The population is about two-third Ungol, but the need for constant siege defence means it does not have either horse archers or winged lancers to call its own. This deficiency is rarely a problem, as Volksgrad is almost never required to send troops elsewhere.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Title: Construction/exploration lore
Subtitle: Bolgasgrad
Trigger: explore/construct Bolgasgrad

Bolgasgrad is a fairly large stanitsa, dominated by Gospodars and proud of its rota of winged lancers. Its boyars have a tradition of strong-minded independence from the central authorities, as well as a history of being replaced with appointees from Kislev.

The appointees often seem to go native. The stanitsa is most notable for its recurrent problems with Undead, both intelligent and otherwise. The rota is often called upon to hunt the unliving down, and the Temple of Morr is the most popular in the settlement, eclipsing even Ursun and Dazh. Almost everyone is convinced there must be a necromancer of some sort in the area, but repeated attempts to hunt him down over the past few decades have always ended in failure. Even when a necromancer was caught, the Undead problems did not end, suggesting the true cause is still at large.

It is the only known place where the Chaos god Necoho is worshiped.

Title: Exploration occupation lore
Subtitle: Necoho the Doubter
Trigger: explore or occupy Bolgasgrad with Kostaltyn

Konstaltyn was no stranger to the ways of the dark gods, having witnessed the blood lust of Khorne, the trickery of Tzeentch, the putridness of Nurgle and the temptations of Slaanesh in person and yet resisted them all. However not all men were of as strong a will or faith as he was and cults to the dark gods weren't an uncommon sight even in Kislev, good men and women abandoning the Orthodoxy for the sake of their own selfish desires.

However... this "Necoho the Doubter" was a complete paradox, the opposition to religion itself?! It boggled the mind of even Konstaltyn as to why people would even follow such a creature as it literally offers nothing in return except ignorance!

Necoho's Chaotic nature manifests itself in a contradiction which should logically make his existence impossible: he is a deity who stands against the whole idea of gods and religion. Needless to say, this means that his following is extremely small, even for an obscure Renegade Chaos God, and his name is only found in the oldest and most obscure of forbidden tomes.

No doubt, this is the way Necoho likes it. He has no symbols, no holy days and gives nothing in return. Once again the Supreme Patriarch of the Great Orthodoxy had to wonder why he would even be worshipped as clearly he gave nothing in return.

Thankfully as far as Konstaltyn knew, Bolgasgrad is the only place in the whole of the Old World where Necoho is worshipped, with the Temple of the Ancient Allies in Bolgasgrad being his only temple. Konstaltyn would take great pleasure in tearing that temple down and having a church of Urson built in it's place, Necoho's following would die with his temple.

Oddly enough a short slightly plump old Human man, with a permanent expression of ironic amusement had tried to sway Konstaltyn away from his beliefs in the Orthodoxy by asking questions about the Ursun, the Orthodoxy and the gods in general that even he didn't have answers for. The Supreme Patriarch wanted to have the old man flogged, but when he turned away to order it for just a moment the man had disappeared.

One cannot so easily destroy the opposition to religion itself.

I wanna do construction/settlement lore for Cathay. Probs will have to start my first campaign to get a good look at the map. And yes, I'm still going to make furry jokes about Tigermen Village.

Just would like to point out that this ought to be a Skarbrand victory. But a lovely read either way!

Title: Settlement lore
Subtitle: Castle Alexandronov
Trigger: construct Castle Alexandronov

Description:

Castle Alexandronov stands to the North of Erengrad, on the borders of the Troll country. Construction of the castle was originally ordered by the great Tzar Alexandr Njevski. He chose the site guided by a dream in which Boris Ursa, the Forever Tzar of Kislev, directed him to build a great stronghold for Kislev, or else the land would be lost in a war against the greatest evil of all. Alexandr travelled across the land of Kislev for two years, until he recognised the site from his dream. Near the Troll Country stood a great cliff, some five hundred feet tall, and on the highest point he found the cool stream of clear water that Boris Ursa had shown him.

Here was built a gigantic fortress with seven walls and a massive keep. Dwarfs hired from the northern holds worked ceaselessly for over a decade and the Ice Mages, led by Tzarina Olga, cast great enchantments over it. This effort severely depleted the treasury of Kislev, and many Boyars and Chalnekhniks opposed it bitterly, claiming that the castle served no purpose. The coming of Chaos was to prove how wrong they were.

Castle Alexandronov does not block the route of the rampaging Chaos hordes. Indeed, that would be an impossible task, since the northern Kislevite border stretches many hundreds of miles, most of it windswept plain. Rather, the castle attracts the worshippers of the four Dark Gods like a candle attracts moths. Arrogant Chaos Lords regard the land where the castle stands as their property and to have a Kislevite fortress on their land enrages them to a reckless frenzy.

Castle Alexandronov has never been taken. It is one of the most formidable fortresses in the Old World, rivaling even the great Dwarf strongholds. During the Great War against Chaos the castle was attacked six times and some of the most bitter fighting of the entire campaign was fought in its colossal shadow. The castle tied up a considerable part of the Chaos horde and it is without doubt that it was instrumental in the defeat of Chaos during that dark time.

The castle is constantly manned by the most fanatical defenders of Kislev and each man who aspires to join either the Kreml Guard or Gryphon Legion must first serve here for a period of six months. A Kislevite youth can usually expect to see at least two sieges during his service and can bear witness to the foulness of Chaos with his own eyes. The castle is an important symbol for the people of Kislev, signifying their resolution to stand firm against any enemy.

Title: Settlement lore
Subtitle: Sepukzy
Trigger: construct Sepukzy

Description:

Sepukzy is one of the largest settled groups of Ungols in Kislev and has no permanent Gospodar residents. The stanitsa supplies its horse archers to the pulks, but they are not up to the standards of the true nomads; the residents are debating raising a rota of winged lancers instead, but traditionalists are strongly opposed.

The hags are very strong in Sepukzy, and several old mothers reside here. It is a major centre for the later training of wise women, when they are introduced to the issues of advising a settlement. No one here would dream of going against a wise woman’s advice. At any time, at least three of the hags from the stanitsa are off in the north, at a secret location. They do not always come back, and speculation as to what they do is rife. None of the hags say anything, however.

Title: Settlement lore
Subtitle: Zoishenk
Trigger: construct Zoishenk

Description:

Zoishenk is probably the largest settlement in the Northern Oblast, a cattletown with a solid stockade and a defensible position on the Tobol. It is a popular mustering point for pulks, as it is on the edge of the Troll Country, which is where the pulks typically head. During the Chaos Incursion, it mustered troops from the north and headed south.

The stanitsa took remarkably little damage during the storm; it was besieged by a couple of small groups of raiders but survived largely intact. Most people agree the hordes were simply avoiding distractions on their way south. As a result, it is even larger now than it used to be, refugees swelling its numbers.

Title: Settlement lore
Subtitle: Gerslev
Trigger: construct Gerslev

Description:

Gerslev is the stereotypical provincial town, the place that bungling country bumpkins come from in the jokes told in the City of Kislev. The citizens know this and try to break the stereotype by achieving the heights of culture and fashion.

Unfortunately, these attempts just make the jokes worse, as they are mocked as know-nothing provincials who try too hard. Ironically, foreign visitors find Gerslev is the most cultured town (it seems wrong to call it a stanitsa) in Kislev; the plays of Detlef Sierck are standard repertory at the three theatres, Bretonnian love poetry is constantly in and out of vogue, and there’s a reasonable chance the boyar won’t serve kvas.

The ruling boyar, Irina Putortin, is trying to put together a unit of riflemen to supplement the winged lancers that are the city’s pride, especially after the rota was reduced to one quarter of its full strength in the Chaos Incursion. Most Kislevites see this as yet another sign of a provincial town that does not know its place.

Title: Settlement lore
Subtitle: Uzkulak
Trigger: construct/explore Uzkulak

Description:

Uzkulak, also known as the Place of the Skull, was the seat of the Dwarfs of the East before the Great Catastrophe turned them into Chaos Dwarfs.[2a] Around 1000 IC, in order to fuel the ever increasing demand for slaves, a great sea canal was constructed underground linking the Falls of Doom to the north of Zharr-Naggrund with the Sea of Chaos to the west of Uzkulak, giving the Chaos Dwarf fleet an exit in the north.

It is a strange, secretive place, and the bustling workings of its slave-port and anchorage hide an ancient inner-city that is little more than a heavily garrisoned tomb. The forbidden, lower levels of Uzkulak are shunned, even by its masters and to be consigned to its depths is a punishment reserved for oath-breakers and blasphemers as the worst fate the Chaos Dwarfs can bestow. A fact which, given the malevolent inventiveness of the Daemonsmiths in such matters, speaks much of the horrors which must abide there.

Title: The Celestial Empire
Subtitle: The Siege of Sartosa
Trigger: Cathayan occupation of Sartosa

Description:

Some years ago, a Cathayan trade vessel was accosted off the cost of Sartosa. Pirates, both living and undead, were responsible for the crime and after relieving the crew of their cargo, they proceeded to torture them in heinous manners before putting those who survived to the sword. It was only by chance that a single crewmember, mistaken to have been slain, managed to escape with his life to tell the tale. Upon hearing of this atrocity, the Dragon Emperor vowed to never forget this misdeed and to punish all of Sartosa for harbouring such vile elements within their walls.

Retribution has finally come for the pirate stronghold, with the Dragons leading a force hundreds of thousands strong to wipe out these brigands for good. Their fleet numbered some 400 ships, and thus, blockading the harbour proved to be a simple matter. Artillery batteries were established on the island itself, after which they proceeded to bombard the city’s walls. Engineers worked tirelessly to undermine the fortifications with their tunnels. However, progress was slow before the Dragons decided to intervene personally.

In a daring raid, they assumed their true forms and charged past the barrage of enemy fire to fly across the walls, before destroying the city’s gunpowder stores with powerful magic. A massive portion of Sartosa’s walls collapsed afterwards, with our warriors seizing the opportunity to gain control of the breach. However, they were driven back when the defenders set loose several Bloated Corpses. While a few were destroyed from afar, a handful managed to survive long enough to cause sizeable casualties among our forces.

The breach in the walls would prove particularly contentious, as Grand Cathay’s and Sartosa’s forces fought for control of it. It changed hands multiple times and the Dragons grew impatient. The artillery bombardment was intensified and soon, more breaches began to appear, stretching the defenders thin. By this point, the Sartosans were effectively exhausted and knew that no outside help was going to get pass the naval blockade.

Desperate to save their lives, the city agreed to surrender and offered up the pirates responsible for the crime that had led to this conflict. They were tormented the same way they had tormented those innocent traders, with the undead pirates left to rot in their prisons for all eternity. With Sartosa now under Cathayan military occupation, it is likely that its strategic location would serve the Grand Dragon Fleet well. With the city’s pirates rounded up, it is likely that the waters surrounding the island will finally be at peace, for now.

Good job on your Grand Cathay lore posts so far, I like how detailed they can get and how at the end it is written by someone named Xima Qian, which I guess is a Warhammer Fantasy version of Sima Qian.

In my defence of the lazy renaming, WH didn't put much effort into renaming their version of Marco Polo either. But thanks for the compliment. :D
