The Sony Walkman was released in July of 1979 (thematic!) to immediate booming popularity that, unlike 8-Track, didn't start to see it eclipsed by other media (namely Compact Disc players) until the early 1990s, and the height of its popularity continued until 1997.
They were considered the budget option throughout the 90's and I think that in mid 1993's Kentucky, you'd be far more likely to find a Walkman in a student's locker, stored away in a house's bookshelf, or locked up in the glovebox of a car than a portable CD-player.
Gameplay
Having a pocket-sized device that you could listen to your True Music with on-foot without carrying around a bulky boombox would also hit a gameplay niche, especially if it could be attached to a belt like a 2-way radio. Slaying Zeds to up-beat 90's pop on a Walkman would be pretty kick-ass!
Balancing
Walkman were infamously battery-hungry (albeit not as much as some other pocket-sized electronics of the 90's) and the boom-box could be (potentially?) adjusted to recieve radio transmissions in-game. The upside would be portability as obviously sound quality isn't a factor.
A Home Stereo System cabinet was the idol of every home techie in the 70's through 90's. A combination of CD, Vinyl Record and AM/FM Receiver, these all-in-one devices would be the centerpiece of a living room along-side the Television.
Gameplay
Just like the stand-alone vynil player, they would require external speakers and a power source before playing back music devices. Perhaps they could even be mix-and-match parts, though that would be quite a bit more work.
Balancing
These could be rare systems, only found in high-end homes or electronics shops. They'd definitely be more difficult to find than boomboxes, vinyl players, Walkmans or CD-players. They could also be more power-demanding, draining generators faster to run.
Already long obsolete by the setting of the game, nevertheless some people would be obstinate or behind-the-times (particularly in older vehicles) and would have the older 8-Track player installed. The quality is analogous to a mono cassette, and wouldn't be tolerated by anyone who was a serious audiophile.
Gameplay
I can only really see these being installed in older cars, making them a deliberate annoyance for someone looking for "that one perfect song" unless adequately equipped. This would be a vehicle contrast with the record player, which will only work in buildings or proximity to a power source.

the final example is jukeboxes, there where many juke boxes with uses both vinla and cassettes So haveing one for each with say 10-20 tape slots would allow someone to play multiple tracks in their base at the cost of space and power

Thanks for the examples, they are actually cool and I wish I had had one.
My point is that it wouldn't be my first choice to add to this mod without having more common devices first. Imagine finding a few of these in different homes and storage units but not a single walkman or even a compatible discman. There is a similar mod that adds discmans with playable songs, but they are seemingly incompatible with each other.
