It seems the original author intends to create a sentry gun that replaces missiles with player piercing shots of beam particles. For one, this is a brilliant weapon for Valve to introduce hit-scan like projectiles into the game (for that is what the laser weaponry aspect of this item would certainly be considered, an incredibly fast projectile, almost as fast as a hitscan weapon, one or two tenths of a second less.), and for two the engineer certainly could use new things.

I would presume since the beam pierces players, it will fire less quickly than a normal missile from a sentry, though perhaps the engineer need not refuel the missiles for the sentry, as most beam weaponry in TF2 has infinite ammo.

Other than that, I would suggest the 1st sentry tier to have 85 HP, the second to have 195 and the last tier to have 330. This would create variety in sentry HPs, and while the first sentry gun might have less HP than normal, perhaps it could have a very small increase in it's 'head movement' turning speed.

The third tier's laser shot could also, perhaps, have a small fire explosion on impact with the first person to be hit, kinda like a pyro's detonator explosion.

Further more, now that I consider the model more, it is obvious that tiers one and two would also have auxiliary firing mechanisms inplace, thus increasing their overall damage output at earlier levels, which is interesting. For tier one I would suggest making the laser shot to be weaker than the Righteous Bison but function similiarly in most everything except speed, as the laser shot from the Bison is terribly sluggish in it's travel movement. Tier two's laser should be a small improvement on the Bison's damage output and Tier 3 should see a significiant change in the way the damage is output all together.

Naah.
Fire-Laser-:sentry:-Rockets would flip the gameplay totaly.

Here are the imaginary stats I had thought up while making this.
The sentry is designed in a way that looks like it takes a lot of cooling and has problems with over heating.
And also has great vision over the battlefield with it's spider-like eyes.

All levels do not run on ammo to shoot, but instead overheat if fired for long periods of time.
These shots also pierce enemies.

The Sentry also allows the engineer to see enemy HP.
This coupled with pircing enemies makes it a great Sentry to use with the wrangler, aside from overheating.

The third tier shoots down enemy projectiles in a lightning arc fashion and reloads itself after each shot.

So in all, incredibly offensive on the attack with a pushing Engie, and great defensively on it's own, but suspect to being attacked constantly, but great at mopping up enemies that are tightly grouped together.

The sentry gun allowing the Engineer to see the enemy's HP seems a little out of place to me. I mean, why?

And if its shots pierce targets like you said, I think it's a fair balance if it had little to no knockback.

Also, I thought of something different when I read the description. "It gets really hot". Well, what if the sentry would burn any enemy that comes in contact with it?

It would also burn the Engi who built it (not when he's picking it up though), but it's pretty neat against pesky Spies.

The eyes relay information back to the Engie.
And logically speaking, only the HP of enemies within the Sentry's range.

it has improved range
less firing speed
shots pierce at tier 2/3
cannot be crit (MVM)
a little more damage not sure how much
and also burns anything in close range even engi once put down
infinite ammo
costs more metal than usual

ma ideaz meow ~ :3

I was thinking that it would have been cool to have a dispenser that generates a flat squared shield, when were thinking about new engie stuff. with the shield being similar to the medic shield in mvm. it runs on metal, and enemy players can shoot on it to make it run out of metal faster.

Stats idea

PROS
1.Can detect cloaked spies
2.20% faster
3.alt-fire fires deadly lazer that cause the turret to do 55% more damage for eight seconds

Cons
1.Requires 155 metal
2.no rockets (der)
3.must cool down for 12 seconds after alt fire
4.build time increased by 18 seconds

BOOM just had a brain wave how about instead of rockets like many say have a camera but as an upside...how about the sentry takes damage from sappers less and can still fire but has a much slower turn and firing speed, the latter upside will be disabled if the sapper is the red tape recorder but the sentry will downgrade much slower.because spy are and engie archenemy.

What if the third level shoot strong lasers instead of rockets and it takes a little time locking on that laser instead of firing instantly?
Jeffnrey McBonald May 8, 2014 @ 11:58am
Just a suggestion, this weapon should be affected normally by all of the lazer weapons that have lowered damage to buildings. It would add a new meaning and strategy to using those weapons, and also sort of keep with the laser theme. Even if its not full damage from them, at least make the laser weapons do more than they do to normal buildings.

Just a suggestion, but what if, instead of overheating and no ammo usage, the health bar and the Ammo bar are replaced with an 'Energy' bar? Basically, the mechanics behind it is that the Sentry would shoot using its energy as ammunition.
If its energy tank goes below a certain level (Let's say 20%), then the Sentry will shut down as if it's being sapped or disabled. To displace this, the Sentry would have higher health as well; I would say 180 for Lv1, 210 for Lv2, and 235 for Lv3. Values are basically just a level higher than default sentries.
Energy Weapons could also rob the sentry of Energy, same way the Pomson robs Cloak and Ubercharge.
These are just a few ideas that could be used to offset the pros of higher sentry health and firing speed. C:

Personally, I think it should shoot hitscan lasers that go through enemies, with the downside of having no knockback. That in itself seems balanced enough to me. And probably a slower firing speed.
