Detailed explanation of problems with the vanilla screen
First, you need to understand how sitreps work on a mission:
  • Each mission has 0, 1 or several SitReps
    • Each SitRep has a name, description and can be either positive or negative
    • Each SitRep has 0, 1 or several SitRep Effects
      • Each Effect has a name and a description

Now, let's look at how the vanilla screen works:
  • Has exactly 1 slot for SitReps (i.e. can display only 1)
    • The last one in the mission's list will be shown there
  • Has 3 slots for Effects
    • The first 3 Effects will be shown, regardless (and with no visual indication) of which SitRep they belong to
Possible examples:
  • 2 SitReps, first has 1 Effect and the 2nd no effects: 2nd SitRep is shown and the Effect from the first one
  • 2 SitReps, both have 2 Effects: 2nd SitRep is shown, both Effects from the first SitRep and the first Effect from the 2nd SitRep
  • 3 SitReps, only the 2nd has an Effect: 3rd SitRep is shown, with the sole Effect from the 2nd SitRep

This can obviously become very confusing - and useless - in complex scenarios where you have multiple SitReps
