Swapping characters
Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to be able to switch to another survivor from your group, kind of like State of Decay. I did a quick google search and found an old forum thread of Super Survivors for build 40, apparently this was a feature early on but it was removed, also there is currently a debug option to swap characters but the character info sheet doesn't change, and you can't really issue orders from the new perspective.
I recently learned that you can actually have multiple characters in the same save and switch between them from the load screen, there is a 'more' button that let's you specify player 1 and it even lists characters spawned from the mod and this does bring the correct survivor character sheet when loaded, but there are some issues like character duplication, and the process is not as seamless as I'd like.
I'm just asking if it can be possible with the current modding capabilities the game offers.

It is possible to swap to a NPC character and take control of it. Your main char will remain still until you swap back. The only downside is that you must be close enough to have both in view to right click on it and swap back.

Right click on the character, cursor over the name of the NPC and then "Debug swap ...."

Haha yeah I know, I mentioned debug swap in my post. I was hoping for some info if it's even possible to implement a full swap, with the corresponding character info (perks, stats, skills) swapping as well.
Right now when you debug swap, the info panel doesn't change, it remains from the original character, you also cannot issue orders from the new perspective to other npcs since the game thinks you are the still original character.

I havent tested this thoroughly, but i believe if you debug swap with them and then switch back to your main character, you can pick the survivor from the save options. However if your MC is still alive they will disappear when you switch but if they die the body remains. There will also be a clone of the person you replaced.

Be careful about Debug Swap, each character will have their own timer for the raider spawns. When you you swap they might trigger a bandit raid and will catch you off guard.

yeah, being able to play as a survivor would be really cool for RP. Alternating between who does supply runs and whatnot, then some die, some live, and now you got a story of a group of survivors and it's not all centered on your superhero

@Vaeringjar That's exactly what I was thinking! I wouldn't even mind if the rest of them are just idling in the base, taking care of their needs and guarding the base. I just want to know if the code allows to change character perspectives like this with all the character sheets, I'd code it myself with enough time, but first I want to know if it's even possible.

or it might be possible to work around it by "cloning" the NPC into the player and the player into the NPC. At least for skill levels (idk about xp in-between levels) and equipment loadout, and traits, so if it'd also work for gender / skin tone / face & hair, then that's pretty much it. Would then also need to document how to continue as another character if the player dies, or if we'd have to respawn completely.

My lua skills are still too primitive, but from what I've seen mods doing I think it may be doable.

Such a function is VERY necessary, I want to play specifically for a group of survivors, to see its history, the death of characters and the addition of new survivors.

When main character dies anyone part of your group can be started continuing your save.
