Well, to be fair, only words starting with vowels are supposed to have "An". Consonants are supposed to have "a". Now, not many people would disagree that "An NPC" rolls off the tongue better than "A NPC"...and "A uvula" sounds more phonetically and grammatically correct than "An uvula". However, none of that changes the basic linguistic rules.
