I wanted to post about compatibility since I'm using this together with mods like Better Medieval Cultures.
It is not necessary to maintain a full copy of the cultural files, and hurts compatibility. Instead, I tried this (Frankish example):
I made a .txt file named "zz_frankish_MHG" (keeping the CK2 system where files override 0-Z-z) with the following text:
frankish_group = {
graphical_cultures = {
frankish_group_coa_gfx
western_coa_gfx
french_building_gfx
western_clothing_gfx
western_unit_gfx
}
}
french = {
graphical_cultures = {
french_coa_gfx
}
}
norman = {
graphical_cultures = {
norman_coa_gfx
}
}
occitan = {
graphical_cultures = {
french_building_gfx
occitan_coa_gfx
}
}
outremer = {
graphical_cultures = {
mediterranean_building_gfx
}
}
^Note that I defined individual cultures outside the group, so mods that change culture groups will still work (ie won't force Occitan back into Frankish, as it's a separate group in BMC). Works for me in 867 and 1066...Try it!
But i want to suggest put illustrations depend on castles or city tier.
If you look at castles and cities of England they are great, for early medieval time. but in same dates we have pictures of castle in France or Wlach that looks like 15-16th century citadels.
Also there are few castles of 2nd tier in Normandy and lots of castles 1st tier and they looks same:) like huge citadels from late 15 centuries in 870
I understand its just game schematic, but in 1350 we have same Mott / Bailey Castles in England and Enormous citadels in other parts of Europe. Same wooden castles in Rus til 15 ct.
I sure it will be cool to choose few castles from western Europe from already presented and distribute them by tiers in England cultures: Like Mott styled saxon castles for 1st, 2nd from Irish traditions and last ones like Scotland big castles. For middle europe like Holy Roman Empire, some castles from Wlach will be great for last tiers. Maybe there`s no Mott analogs for 1st tier of France or Germany but i think it possible to recolor or make slightly differences from saxon ones. Stock ones are universal for middle tiers of all europe castles.
I think it will be good improvement for timeline historical and logical side of game. Also maybe it will give more motivation to improve our castles.
Sorry for my English and thanks for your work!
I am not referring to the Norse graphical culture.
