Weapon parts and assembly

This mod contains separate Launch Tube Assemblies (LTA) and command launch units (CLU).

Individually the LTA cannot be fired and should be thought of as ammunition, although it occupies a weapon slot for the soldier. This is a practical consideration to allow the unit to carry rounds that would otherwise not be able to fit inside backpacks.

Any command launch unit can be connected to any LTA by an action menu item labelled 'assemble Starstreak'.

This action is only visible to players that have both an environmentally sealed (not used) LTA and CLU on their person, and additionally is only added to a unit when they first attempt to select an LTA as a weapon.

This is a result of certain limitations of the Arma 3 engine as well as attempts to save on processing power by not adding the action to units that have never held a Starstreak. The action is not removed when the weapon is assembled so at any time after first selecting the weapon it will reappear if the unit has the correct parts without needing to reselect the LTA as a weapon.



Using with AI

To reduce clutter within the arsenal, the assembled Starstreak weapons are not shown within the arsenal.

Mission designers/game masters/admins can force add the weapon to units using the command addWeapon:

Ammo can also be added directly to the weapon with addSecondaryWeaponItem:

Additional magazines can also be forced into unit uniforms, vests or backpacks unit the addItemCargo or addItemCargoGlobal commands. AI should then reload the weapon as if a 'normal' weapon.

If mission designers want to emulate an air-defence team using spare LTAs as ammo, you'll need to setup a custom script to remove LTAs from team members and add ammo to whoever has the assembled weapon.
