FEATURE DIVE: Setting your own values for buildings (manual override)
Did you know that Realistic Population 2 has the option to simply and easily override the mod's population calculations for a building asset to whatever figure you want, just by entering that figure in the building settings?

Did you know that this works not just for residential and employment buildings, but also for schools (if custom school calculations are enabled)?

Any building supported by Realistic Population 2 also supports manual overriding of the mod's calculations. This feature enables you to easily and quickly change the number of:
  • Households (for residential buildings)
  • Jobs (for industrial, commercial, or office buildings)
  • Student places (for schools)

There's an illustrated HOWTO on the wiki[github.com] that takes you through the process step-by-step.

To do this, you need to go to the building's settings entry in the mod - there are two ways to do this:
  1. Bring up the mod's settings panel (default Ctrl-E) in game and select the building you want from the list, OR
  2. Click on the building you want in-game, and on the info panel that pops up there will be a "Realistic Population" button

Then, with the building selected in the settings panel:
  1. Select the 'Override popuation' checkbox under the picture of the building (in the center of the panel)
  2. Enter the desired household/job/student count in the adjacent textbox
  3. Press the "Add custom settings" button

It's that simple!

Once this is done, the building will always now have that number of households/jobs/student places.

Make sure you save your game before proceeding, as otherwise the changes may not be saved.

Feel free to ask me any questions! Your input will help inform future updates to the wiki.

Hi, nice feature! Where custom values are stored? I moved the game to another computer and all the custom values I collected are missing now (in cloud save), and buildings reverted to vanilla numbers. There are no blue ticks (indicating custom values) in the settings panel.

Custom settings are stored in the file `RealisticPopulationConfig.xml` in your local settings directory (in Windows, %LocalAppData%\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines`). Copy that file across to the same location on your new computer to carry the settings across.

That did work, thank you!

Thanks for a great mod.
Is there a way to batch-customise population settings for multiple building types, e.g all low res ECOxxx buildings, instead of having to do each type individually?
Also is there a way to customise your default Population Density types, or to create an additional Population Density type myself?
Thanks.

Yes, that's where you set the default calculation pack for each categoryin the calculation options; see this page on the wiki[github.com].

You can add your own custom calculation packs[github.com] as well.
