Mount & Blade: Warband

Touhou Gensokyo Warfare
[UPDATED 6/18/25] Interesting Facts and Information for Players
Greetings. I am an enigma from a distant land and I bring tidings of hidden knowledge about this neat mod for other players to learn. Here's some info!

IMPORTANT FACTS:
NIGHTTIME: When it is night, the game causes archers and riflemen to become very, very inaccurate at shooting. This is also in regular Warband. This can be used to your detrimental effect, or to your advantage (meaning, it causes your foes to become inaccurate too.) Very useful for attacking Eientei and the Magic Library. Tip: Attack Eientei armies at night, if possible.
It's kinda bad if you yourself are using Eientei armies, though... Just do your best okay? An exception to this is if you are using Eientei shotgunners or Royal Magicians/danmaku folk that shoot clusters of magic stuff.

VAMPIRES AT NIGHT: The creator, apparently, has insane bias towards the Scarlet Devil Mansion (there is even a horse that has a Remilia pic on it.) This faction was designed to pretty much deal with everyone else. The vampire units receive a 50% health and damage boost to themselves at night, a 10% movement boost, and a 10% attack speed boost. They also have a 10% damage-to-health life steal when they hit enemies, because why not? This makes them way too strong.
Yes, they are stronger than Oni infantry in close combat when you don't give them shields. But thankfully the Oni have a limited supply of silver, garlic-laced throwing axes that they can throw to kill them easier if the player uses good tactics. Anyway, the list below shows the vampires' combat feats.

List of vampire victories when it is nighttime:
+Bloodswords beat Goldreaves w/o garlic-laced throwing axes and w/o player tactical input.
+Scarlet Exsanguinators are as strong as Oni Goldreaves stat-wise (tested 20 times for each in Former Hell, calculated the casualty average and it was like 28.1 for vamps and 28.6 casualty ratio for Oni.)
+Scarlet Batwing Cavaliers w/o lances beat Deva Executioners w/o player tactics (yes, Deva Executioners.)
+Elite units are broken at night (Devil of Lilith, Dolls) and can defeat pretty much anything.

At daytime, their strength is decreased significantly. This makes them fair and balanced.
If you or your wife Remilia/Flandre ever attack an army or whatever, make sure you battle at night so you can watch the chaos unfold.
Moreover, if you are playing on an easier difficulty, the vampires retain their health more since enemy damage is decreased + life steal. But even on normal difficulty, weak units are basically health packs for these guys.

COMPANION EQUIP MENU:
This right here is very necessary to unleash the full capabilities of your units. On the world map, press CAMP> MISC> COMPANION EQUIP to control which weapons your units will bring to the battlefield. From my research, it appears the units that use ammo (arrows, bullets and magic) may not bring their full payload out to the battlefield. For example: Eientei Deadeyes will only bring 10 AP rounds to the battlefield UNLESS the player gives them the whole loadout on the equip menu, and the Veteran Tricksters will not have a shield on their back unless you kindly give it to them. You can also give certain Eientei troops grenades (OP FOR SIEGES) and tell them to use them when you use the "blunt weapons only" order.
Moreover, you can also remove things from your units that you don't feel like they should have. For example: removing shields from Scarlet Exsanguinators will make them rival Goldreaves in terms of raw cutting damage; removing lances from Scarlet Moonknights will drastically increase the damage Moonknights do to enemies in a dog-pile. Do take advantage of that and remember to do it whenever necessary.

DISABLE FRIENDLY FIRE:

There is an option to disable friendly fire from allied explosives and attacks in a certain folder of the mod installation. It's in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\48700\2021409684/module. Edit the "module" file and look for "no_friendly_fire_for_bots" and set it to "1."
I don't see any reason to have friendly fire on. Things are just better that way. Like, Eientei grenades should be thrown without hurting your allies... Remilia should just let her divine spear attack the enemies, but not your army (ofc for balance purposes, let her do it.) But I see NO reason to have friendly fire. JUST.. Please, disable... friendly fire. Life is better that way.
You can also enable "use_phased_reload" in the same file to make your riflemen do a musket-type reloading style. Purely visual effect and sometimes it goes... really... fast... if your riflemen are shotgunners or deadeyes.

RACE BONUSES FOR UNITS:

This is a spreadsheet for units that have a race bonus (i.e, Vampire, Moon Rabbit and others.)

SECRET CHEST AND SECRET UNIT:
There is a secret chest in the maze-like dungeon called... something "graves". It's where the Jiangshi girl hangs out. The place is an absolute maze but the chest has some items that are really not that good. Just wanted to put that here cause someone in the comments found a chest there. Went there, did that, and it was not worth it, really.
Now here is something interesting. There is a hidden unit called the "Mobile Shrine" that can be found when cheatmenu is enabled. It's in the "battle test" menu or something. It's from the Hakurei Shrine and it's the strongest thing in the game in terms of raw strength and defense. It can't be recruited normally, but a couple dozen can raze Gensokyo.

FORCE UNITS TO CROUCH WHILE AIMING:
A hidden trick known by a select few players tested and proven in the battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars DLC was the ability to make all of your soldiers kneel while shooting, which increased their ability to shoot enemies much more accurately from far away. This trick is apparently available here in Gensokyo and it's more broken than ever.
This mainly works for an all Eientei player army, so I will use that as an example.

First, assign most of your bunny girls to the "archer" class in the Party menu. Next, after entering the battlefield, tell all of your troops to follow you.
Now, select your infantry by pressing "1." Next, press "F2" for "formation orders" and then press "F1" to form 1 rank infantry. Now, select your archers by pressing "2" (or just press "0" to select everyone) and tell them to "hold this position." They should all kneel in a straight line after a bit, which will enable them to shoot enemies more accurately from far away. It takes practice, but soon it becomes second nature in terms of tactical decision making. This also works for other ranged units (Scarlet Crimson Blade, Scarlet Reaper), but not all. Telling them to use a different formation will cause them to stop kneeling.

STAND GROUND COMMAND:
This may have been a useless command in Warband and Napoleonic Wars DLC, but in Gensokyo, it is a necessity to have this command by your side when needed.
"Standing ground" will allow your Eientei troops to not move when surrounded by enemies. You must tell your troops to "only use ranged weapons" or this will not work. Instead of relocating to face the enemy, they will stay put and put in shots when their FOV is clear of allies. For example: The best formation to use for Eientei when being attacked by hero units or horse cavalry is "Form 5>Spread out>spread out." After telling them to stand ground when they start shooting the enemy, they will NOT move the formation around in a death-circle of stupidity nonsense. They WILL stay put and shoot Reimu/Miko when they decide to attack the inside of your formation. Especially with Eientei Deadeyes, the Hero units will most certainly die in a quick time with minimal casualties on your side--of course, this requires some training on your part with "stand ground," and I don't recommend doing this with slow firing troops.
Casually telling your bunny girls to form 5>spread out>spread out without standing ground and without the "ranged weapons only" command will cause them to keep moving, not shoot and literally blender into a mush of casualties.

SUPERSONIC MORIYA WHITE WOLF GUNNERS:
Check this out: If you have White Wolf Gunners from the Youkai Mountain faction, you can make them go as fast as a Moon Chaser horse if you do this trick.
Go to the "Companion Equip Menu" and click on the Wolf Gunners. Now, put their loadout in this order, from top to bottom:
Sentinel Dao
Kappa Ammo Equipment
Teppo Cartridges
Teppo Cartridges
Now, your white wolves will be going as fast as white wolves should go... which is apparently faster than Miko and top-tier horses. I don't know why this happens and I don't understand how I stumbled upon this.
