English Guide 2024
What is this?

I'm a guy who played this mod for like 300 hours or more and I felt like I noticed a lot of things while I played that could prove useful for both new and old players of this mod. I noticed in the last guide it didn't have answers to some of the things I was looking for so I did the research myself and now, I post it here.

Mind you, this post is long, check comments for the continued parts of this guide.

About Stats in this game

As you might know, in this game, your stats scale. I'm assuming it's the devs wanting a more fast paced battling feel and have it more accurate to the pacing of Touhou. Your race determines some features for your stats.

-Fairies: Have less Hp but regen. Though on some maps, for some reason it won't activate. and on other times it will, but only if you use first aid on yourself (Y key)(Mind you you'll need 1 personally in that skill to use it)
-Human: Generic, but cool. Showing Gensokyo the true inheritors of this land.
-Youkai: Damage increase. Easier mode for those who don't want Human.
-White Wolf Tengu: Increase hp and speed. Honestly, I feel like this is an easier character to play overall.

After that, it's backstory. It will change your equipment, stats and skills. Similar to that of Vanilla. Nothing much to say about it, the words change, but the actual coded math for these changes are still the same. If you look up the choices for backstory from vanilla and relate those options to the ones here, it's a simple follow and understanding.

Cosplay: Sounds weird, but this makes you amazing in combat. Have a lord get high relations with you. Try to reach 100. Ask for outfit. Go to camp, extras, exchange and grab the clothes and put it on. It will increase your stats while you are in battle. Amazing. Weird, but amazing.

Tips for the Campaign.
-The Main Campaign rarely uses your actual units.
-For Cirno's fight, simply keep your troops inside the castle, inner wall and force the enemy to run into you
-For Escaping Fujiwara, pray. But on a side note, travel outside the city using the gate behind you once you enter the main area and walk around the city to the next gate travelling right. Then Charge in, sadly this is the best strategy and it's hard to say it works 50% of the time.
-Recruiting Companions is not recommended mostly because the party that goes well with each other are auto-recruited. Everyone else will bicker with your current party. So unless you have high CHA don't bother.
-Calvary is your best friend. The only mission that you use your mission is bandit camps and normal battles with fairies. Calvary will crush them.
-Auto resolve is awful, just like in the normal game. You will lose losses that you wouldn't think possible most of the time in fights if you use auto resolve.
-Upgrade your companions physical stats. More health and damage with good equipment makes a lot of these missions bearable, specially on full damage settings.
-Renown is a pain to collect. If you are gonna get some quickly you can either ambush Youkai bandits with a tiny strong army or lose some honour and ambush lords.
-Don't buy enterprises in Senkai as you will go to war with them for some time. But buy them everywhere else.
-Becoming a lord or a vassal may have some benefits, however if you're at war, the campaign will make you wait a few days for cutscenes even if you are fighting that war and doing the story. This of course allows enemies time to attack you without you being able to do nothing.
-If another faction takes a city where you have a mission in, the generic enemies will change troops. Doesn't sound bad until you realise your low level units are now fighting rabbits with guns instead of zombies.

Tips for Sandbox.
-Compainions are fantastic and are also you're only real source of loyal lords.
-This being said you need to pick either team A or team B for companions. Table is shown below.
-Enterprises also have the same effect as caravans, but far less impact, pick them in cities with factions you don't to bother for awhile.
-Shinki cost a lot of P-points, however she is just about as strong as Reimu. Picking her means you win the game really.
-Magic Library and Genbu Ravine are rich cities in the middle of the map. They make good lands to own and better to make capitals.
-Eintei has arguably the best army next to the Scarlet Empire in the hands of the player, however both have problems. Eintei is run by Kaguya, who for some reason is an idiot and a glutton. She constantly throws feasts and distracts the marshal and her lords while they are at war. And the scarlet Empire either sweeps everyone or gets crushed completely.
-When an empire falls, they tend to join the biggest nation or rivals to the nation that destroyed them. I'd say it's on average a 50/50 on recruitment and is also based on the laws of your nation at the time.
-when you get a guild mission from a city. Ignore every single hunting mission. Trust me, it ain't worth it. Half the time the target spawns and then runs so far away form the city, you can never track them down again. Go only for the kidnapped quests, cow and wine transfer, and the convincing the lords one. All the other ones are risky business and doom you to fail.
-The harder mission from the guild is really good to do and gives you plenty of exp and money. Mind you, you will be fighting like 120 guys on average every-time but eh, who cares.
-Lord missions are almost all doable except for the spy mission where you have to wait for a spy to leave the city and follow them. Don't do that one. Same problem as with the bandit quests from before. The other spy mission is fun and you can do it though.
-Sometimes when doing a prison break, the game will think your doing a magic library quest and kick you out of the city. If that happens, sorry, your lord is stuck in there. Sucks really. For me it happened in Myouren Temple (The city.)

Marrying someone requires these:
Lord: 30 relations, 120 renown, 0+ honour.
King: 50 relations, 250 renown, 10+ honour.
Also for whatever reason, CHA as a stat needs to be fairly high like 13 to marry most women in this game.
-When you marry a lord then make your kingdom, you can demand they defect to you. This works even with kings, but you only get the lands they personally manage. Works if you're a vassal as well. (So long as your not serving your wife.)
*you can try marrying them lower, but this is what I gathered from playing the game on average.

About Caravans:

As a warning, they will always break the economy of the game by over-shipping and overselling supplies which at one point will cause the world market to crash and glitch out. It's not recommended to use Caravans In my opinion. But if you want to play it risky, then there are perks.

Caravan management early game speeds up your entire game entirely, so rushing that isn't bad.
Caravans with 50 troops and best quality although expensive, will produce money throughout the game. Though expect to pay about 12-15000 P-points to get it set up.
For Caravans, never trade with the underworld. Why? Catfish are aggressive and will attack your caravan forcing auto resolve.

-Don't worry about enterprises, they work normally.

General tips.
-Early game grinding happens between Fujiwara city and West Human Village, Hakurei shrine to Kourindou and anywhere in the underworld mostly around Former Capital.
-Powerdraw only effects bows and arrows only. I rarely see it be used on crossbows.
-There is special menus in the camp options. There is even an option menu in there that changes your skeleton to fit clothes and to boost spears, drastically making Myoren and Hakurei armies better.
-Guns tend to be the best range weapon, however it will either be the lunar rifle stolen from dead Eintei honour guards or the gun you take from Yumeni.
-This being said, if you want archery or power throw, and you invest in it, you'll still have a good time. It's just more expensive stat wise compared to a gun is all.
-Lances are good only if you're a Calvary build. They hit fences, walls and allies a lot so piercing is the only good way of doing that, but you'll have to balance speed scaling damage with that.
-One handed is better then two handed. Why? Shields are needed to reflect the many, many different types of range weaponry that the Ai is very good at aiming with. Eintei when defending, will kill any two handed person with extreme ease. Plus the rare Lunar Knife is really strong when paired with a shield.
-Horse armies are ungodly expensive, but are better then infantry units. They beat Eintei guns in open battles and their heavy armour allows them to close the gap in sieges better then most infantry only units. Because of this, Hell ravens or Myoren illusion Archers, Scarlet knights are considered the best Calvary combo.
-For cheaper Infantry armies their is three.
The first is Eintei ranged troops with either Onis or wolf Tengus if you're really hurting for cash.
The second is Netherworld Shikigami armies of Kitsunes, Spirits, Nekomattas and Demons, only works if you work for the netherworld however.
Finally, the third is Full Eintei armies with the strategy of holding your ground on top of hills and walls. You can buy Onis if you want to be more siege focus and marry an Eintei lord for better elite ranged troops like the LSA agent, but their all good.

Compainion Teams:
A: Cirno, Daiyosei, Tenshi, Iku, Akyuu, Kosozu, Renko, Maribelee
B: Shinki, Yumeni, Mugetsu, Gengetsu, Chariyo, Yumenko, Elly, Kurumi

Faction Tier List (In My Opinion)
S Scarlet Devil - Underworld
A Eintei - Youkai Mountain
B Netherworld - Myoren Temple
C Hakurei Shrine
D Senkai

Why these ranks:

SDM: Scarlet Calvary is amazing, only downside is that your infantry sucks and you need horse archers somewhere to make this army work. Though if your not filling your cities with cheap infantry and having strong Calvary then your not playing the faction right. Horse archers can be from Leavatein dolls. No you don't have to marry the internet vampire, in late game every lord feels like they have one or two of them in their captives sections anyways. Plus you can make your companions horse archers.

Underworld: Light Calvary for days. and if that's not your style the best infantry for seizing can be yours as well. Only downside is that the honour guard units aren't great and Satori is a weak king.

Eintei: Is anyone surprised that the faction with guns is a strong tier empire? Only downside to them is no shields on most units, no melee Calvary, and no armor on anyone. In addition your units melee weapons are lack luster as well. Archers and honour guards, are amazing here but nothing else here works for them.

Youkai mountain: Kappa infantry are good strong and sturdy and have funny weapon options if you know the tech tree. The wolf guards however are bad. better then Hakurei units to be fair, but still bad. Their calvary option is what them good. For the shrine maiden here. None of it is bad to say, nor is it perfect. The Tengu squalls here however are rather fun option. Their really fast light infantry so their good anti cal units with their spears but their also good weapons against archers and decent at castle maps. However their not perfect as their armour and no shields make them easy to kill. Overall fun, and not bad. but their is better options. Aya's Galeforcers are strong and so are the living gods if you want to marry for good units.

Netherworld: This might be a strange pick but hear me out. Yes Late game when you can afford the Shikigami mechanic (for those who don't know a merchant in netherworld cities in a tavern will sell you Shikigami paper that you can use to summon most units) it's expensive and only useful when your main army dies. Their normal infantry and their cav. are lightly armoured, thin shielded, fast, and do okay damage. The gimmick that they die and make a peasant level soul to keep fighting is cool, but they all die in one hit anyways and you need a Netherworld lord to be there to activate the ability. Overall, this is the most expensive army you can get and their going to do their job, but some factions just do their job better. Yukari's honour guard are interesting however and so are Eiki's however Eiki's is very okay in building and castle maps.

Myouren Temple: Yes I know their generic but hear me out. You ever thought Byakuren was a slaver? Well apparently she is with the amount of blunt weapons she have. You can very easily make the most money using a slaver character and using her army. In addition generic doesn't mean bad by the way, it just means nothing super good. Still they have no shields and little armour as well which makes them easy to kill. Except for the honour guard lotus monks. who don't have a shield, have a lot of bombs. And explosives, on mass NPC armies, is pretty good for stunning purposes. There's no good honour guard units here as well, so pick whatever girl you want I guess.

Hakurei Shrine: This faction powers come from their strong leaders more then their troops. Although I will admit their troops on certain maps can be annoying. And on other maps, can be so easily countered I sometimes do the forbidden art of auto-battle just to not bore myself. Their units are well armoured, but slow and with small shields on certain units. Their throw-able units are good but nothing else really. Plus their melee troops use spears which are not good for seizing. Their spears will hit walls, doors, and allies before hitting their targets and this isn't talking about the enemies most likely using swords and daggers, thus making a huge gap of dps that the Hakurei units can't come across. Still Reimu and Mima are strong units, and Alice and Marisa are also helpful on the field. Also Mokou is just tank that blows up every now and then, so feel free to just have her sit on the front lines all the time.

Senkai: I have never wanted to use this faction after my first run with these guys. Slow, although well armoured and shielded, these guys bring nothing super good to the table. their base infantry is useful and really...nothing else is great. even the zombie mechanic although cool is just to replenish your army. Their all two handed swordsmen, with their weapon being invisible. Or at least, that's what they all seem. They have no shields, and little armour and a good amount of hp. However in this game, damage scaling is huge so even the strongest zombies die in like 6 hits from a mid tier unit. Their leaders have no impression either. Toyosatomimi no Miko is cool and scary at first, but she is probably the second easiest kind unit to fit next to Satori.

I'm not going to make a Waifu tier list, but here's a list of characters that have good honour guards if you want to know:

Remilia, Flandre, and Koakuma (yeah, weird right?)
Kaguya, Eirin and Reisen,
Yukari,
Reimu,
Kanako, Suwako, Sanae and Aya,
Byakuren.

Threats on the Battlefield:
Remilia: Do you like Nukes? Because that is what she is. At the start of every fight, she'll throw her spear and do roughly 60 damage to everyone on the field. Friendly and Foe alike. (You can change this in the options menu under Gungir)
Mokou: Has a lot of hp and after x amounts of hit, will just explode hitting all nearby units. Not much mind you, or that big, but still, it's hard to fight because of that.
Reimu: Fast, strong, good hp, strong mount, good throwing weapons. Overall, a complete menace on the battlefield.
Kaguya: Has a lot of HP and is fast. Stronger damage wise then Mokou but doesn't have the exploding effect
Eirin: Weaker Kaguya but her arrows shoot actually 12 shots (might be 8-10) and with damage scale that's a good amount of damage.
Yukari: You ever hit someone or their guard and have a message appear that says "the attack is reflected?" Yeah, her guards get that ability and Yukari gets it to but much stronger. Making her really tanky despite being a normal lord.
Yuugi: Deva Executioners have so much health, armour and power that it's hard to stand toe to toe with one early game. Yuugi is that but has a lot more hp.

Warning, this next part talks about a secret event!:

Fairy Rebellion:

This is an event that has a chance to spawn after day 100 of sandbox. However, it's glitches and is hard to like and it's sort of bad, although I really want to like this idea. The problem becomes it just soft locks you out of several strong cities for the rest of the game until you can solo seize a city with 900+ troops not to mention the guards around the place. And the reason you have to solo seize it is because this is for some reason considered an event to attack them like a bandit hideout rather then a new nation. So yes, you have to do it by yourself.

In addition, Cirno and Daiyousei have no say about it, and you get no dialogue on it if your a fairy yourself. You can even talk with them either. They also still suppress your enterprise there though, and your caravan if your risking the game's economy can still be attacked by them.

Overall a cool idea with good lore, but due to it's state, is far more a curse then a fun mechanic.

Conclusion:

And that's all I have for tips, tricks and guides for this mod. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Make sure to also comment down below to petition the devs to give Sakuya her own custom Guard because why does Koakuma get one and not her? Mind you I really like Koakuma but it's strange that the girl in lore that's taking care of controlling the empire in Remilia's stead doesn't get anything but Patchouli's servant gets a pretty good unit that looks awesome. (Not that I mind)

Unable marry Kaguya with 18 CHA, 60 relation, honor 42 and 886 renown, any hints? I'm vassal of her fraction.

Hm, my guess is that your honour and renown might be to low. If i remember my Eintei Run I had roughly 60 honour with and above 1000 renown. In addition, if you want to be safe, I'd say upgrade cha to 19, even if it's via the cheat menu (if your not on ironman) to test if that's the issue. The game has semi-random variables to determine a suitor so it could one of those three things, because as a "king" she has higher standards.

thanks, this was an interesting read :D
How do I actually use the himepaper? I have it in my inventory and am in the Netherworld faction. I read somewhere that there's an option to use it in the camp menu, but I don't see it. The only thing I can think I did "wrong" is that I joined the netherworld faction by marrying Yukari instead of asking Yuyuko if I could join.

I also can't seem to get the cosplay equipment to work. I get the message that I received it, but don't see it anywhere in my inventory.

Sorry for the late reply. So you will want to go to camp, and then in those options settings, the words SUMMON (be where READ and EXCHANGE will be.) will be there, that is where you see the summon options. there is an option in the extra part in camps as well that adds a summon button at normal camp menu.

As for cosplay, you need relations above 50 to see the difference. 100 gives you max value. and the cosplay only works on the person your cosplaying so 100 Sakuya means nothing if you are wearing Patchouli's clothes.

Also by the way, you join a faction by asking Yuyuko to join. Marriage doesn't make you a lord. Or at least, I'm pretty sure it doesn't make you officially part of the faction. you would need to swear in via the "King" in this case Yuyuko.

Is there anything to be done if, when you try to marry someone, they say they're interested in 'other maidens'?

Yes there is, just raise your CHA up. It's just a thing in the game, that for some reason, characters need at least 10 CHA, but usually 13 makes it a closed deal. however sometimes, the game still says no, so just raise it up once again. Using the cheat method is a good way to see the limit of when their gonna say yes.

Sadly, it is random so I can't tell you the exact number. But just remember, it's just a CHA issue, so keep levelling it up.

Thank you. My character's CHA was decently high, 15, so I was left wondering...
