Jews.

My response from comments in case someone views this later on:

No, actually according to the Old Testament Abraham would be born around this time in Ur but the mod tries to be as historically authentic as possible and as far as I am aware there is no reason to believe this to be true. As far as I found Judaism would have developed, quite gradually, much, much later. I haven't looked into it much though and it would be cool if there was some emergent religions. Zoroastrianism probably has a better shot of making it. Monotheism might be possible to represent in some other more dynamic way too though.

Hey thank you for getting back to me, I respect that decision and look forward to the future of the mod. Thank you.

While Judaism wouldn't come around for another millenia and a half, it is thought that the proto-Hebrews became dominant and seized Judea from Egypt around the time of the Collapse in the 1200's BC, and the earliest possible sites for them date from the 13-1400's where Canaanite settlements have been found without Pig bones. Though even that is beyond this mod's time frame a bit.

We need the Aten! The only true god is the Sun and all others must be destroyed

The current consensus on the origins of the Israelites/Jews is that they were essentially descended from the Canaanites with whom they share continuity in terms of language, material culture and genetic make up, with the possible addition of a smaller group of Asiatics/Amorites leaving Egypt who would be responsible for the Exodus narrative. For that matter, Hebrew is the only Canaanite dialect that is still spoken nowadays.

If you intend on playing the Jews' ancestors in that mod, based on what I've read, the best candidates among the Canaanite city-states would be Shekhem, Hazor and Jerusalem (these three seem to have been central to the ethnogenesis of the Proto-Israelites).

You're welcome.

Though I strongly disagree with a lot of the doubts and late dates, it is true that this would be long before Jews, or even Israelites/Hebrews, this mod does takes place at a time when Abraham would be a child at best. And at least six hundred years before the Exodus. It's a pity as I'd like to play the nation of Israel some time but oh well, I'm still liking this mod. I look forward to the Indus valley and inner Anatolia.

Another city-state I've forgotten here would be Megiddo, which also had a formative role in Israel's ethnogenesis. I've been re-reading about stratum VI at Megiddo, the Iron I city, and it probably was Israelite by that time, and in light of the recent DNA results from Megiddo, the Israelites were certainly descended from Megiddo's inhabitants.

i dont know much about modding but do you think it would be possible to add a decision to form a proto-jewish religon if a nation meets a certain criteria? Like maybe the nation passes certain laws or ruler has the rights stats?
