Lets Talk About Golans (Short questions followed by a rant)
First the short
1.) Are there any submods that either significantly nerf/remove them?
2.) Any ways to tweak them so they don't pump out an obscene amount of fighters
3.) Are there any ways to make the golan and orbital defense platform an either/or choice?

Ok, so now that the short is out of the way, time for the rant....

First off great mod - anyone who mods has the right to throw my gripes into the incinerator. As far as I'm concerned you did the work for free without any expectation so a big thanks to anyone who worked on this mod - it definitely made the game way more enjoyable.

That said - there is one thing that stands out among all others.
The obscenely broken, fighter spewing abominations known as golan platforms.

Coupled with a orbital defense array - this is literal hell for the rebellion to deal with - especially on any map where things are in a tight cluster (Couruscant...)

I am literally losing entire deployments at unfathomable rates. The strategy I assume is,

1.) Destroy the orbital array
2.) Sit back and bait the AI outside the golans
3.) Deal with the golans.

Ok, fair. However, issue 1 & 2 is a catch 22. The main reason being - I need fighters to really clear space for my frigates/cruisers/sparse cap ships. But since the golans spew a bajillion fighters, and for whatever reason the AI built 2 dozen fighters - I can send a full fleet of fighters - but get promptly obliterated regardless of wherever the engagement takes place just due to how grossly outnumbered I am.

Sending in corvettes/frigates is laughable as they are pretty much obliterated the moment they enter the battlefield. Being grouped/spaced doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference. I can send in Cap ships, but they get obliterated by the combined force of the golan so ridiculously fast or whittled down by the defense cannon that I can't just sit back and take the abuse as any non-fighters I send in just clog up space causing me to lose fighter superiority.

I'm in a situation where anything I send in - almost anywhere I send it is DOA. (To be fair - maybe capping the tech to level 2 is part of the issue? I usually fast tech so this is my only way to really experience yavin-era gameplay)

How are people beating these? Do you basically have to just be willing to have a sacrificial fleet to yeet into the orbital arrays?

Imo - these are the toughest things in the game to beat - even more so than SSDs which at least limit the size of the support fleet. This is like having to fight 2 SSDs at once while contending with a regular fleet which has station support.

(As a side note - the fact that I can send a fleet of 1000+ points and the enemy loses nothing in auto-resolve is completely ridiculous)

You are quite right about their difficulty when comparing them to SSDs. Actually if there's like 4 Golan 3s on the field they can take out Executor without any difficulty. (Not actually possible in normal game, fortunately)

It is quite clear that the Golan's most annoying weapon is its fighter garrison, as they can chase you wherever you are. Its torpedo also reach far but not as far as fighters, in fact you can put your ship at the other side of one Golan so the other one can't reach you.

As of fighter screening, consider using something with good AOE instead of pure fighters. Starfighters like A-wings and PT-1 get some good AOE missiles, and ships like Recusant get FLAK hardpoints. As an Empire player I use Victory-class which has heavy concussion missile for this problem, but it's a bit hard for Rebel to find equivalent in early game.

Without their fighter escort, Golans are EXTREMELY WEAK against bombers. You can just quickly focus fire on their few AA hardpoints, and then let your bombers enjoy their time.
